UPDATE (pg 2) Important... Need Prayers Now

I'm so sorry this happened .... I hope your grandmother's surgery goes well and that she has a quick recovery!

We went through something very similar with my grandmother in Feb. 2009. She had to have a colostemy (sp?) because she had a perforation. Like you grandmother, she was in ICU with tubes, and it was very scary. It was touch and go for quite a while, but she did pull through and is able to live a very active life, even with the bag. So don't give up hope!

I'm sure that your grandmother is a fighter and that she's getting the best care possible.

Talk to your law school professors. Maybe they can work something out for you to take your final exams later.

Okay so I have an update!

My grandma survived the surgery. My mother didn't tell us that right before the surgery the doctor told her that my grandma had a 0% chance of survival if they didn't do the surgery, but only a 25% chance of survival in doing the surgery. We are pretty sure they meant surviving the surgery itself, and after they finished the doctor said 'she's fine' so it's still going to be a long recovery and she's going to need a colostomy bag but it looks like they did their job and hopefully she will be okay. They have her on a respirator for now since she's in such a fragile state but that's temporary. They said her colon was completely destroyed and it was obviously necessary that it come out.

I cannot thank all of you enough for your support and your prayers, I mean looking at a 25% chance of making it through I'm sure the prayers really did work. For the last five hours I really thought we'd be burying her in the dress she bought for my wedding. I am so relieved and cautiously optimistic that Sunday was not the last time I would ever see her. Please continue to keep her in your prayers as she recovers and hopefully won't suffer any more setback and THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart!!
