UPDATE (pg 2) Important... Need Prayers Now
I really didn't want to write about this but I need any prayers anyone can give so I am now...
These last couple weeks have been a nightmare. My grandmother went in for a hip replacement surgery and then within a week developed this really bad infection in her colon. Since then everything that can go wrong went wrong - nobody realized she had the infection for a week and they just kept giving her pepcid and stuff like that which actually made it worse (she was in a post-surgical rehab place to help her with physical therapy and recovery), when they moved her back to the hospital at some point someone broke her hip (the part that connects to the replaced part), and then over the last week and a half everything just went horribly wrong, her colon was really distended and they were afraid it would perforate and all its contents would get into her system, her kidneys started shutting down, and her stomach is really distended because she hasn't been able to eat in weeks and she has tubes everywhere draining everything...
When the doctors said it had become life threatening last Friday night I got on the next flight Sat morning with my parents and rushed down there, she's in the ICU and we have to wear gowns and gloves and stuff so I can't even hug or kiss her... and when I spoke to her doctors they said that they would keep her on the antibiotics and that they would remove her colon as a last resort to try to save her life. Well, apparently we're at that point because my mom just called and said they are doing surgery to remove her colon any minute. I am so upset and worried and I love my grandma so much and I am really afraid that I'm going to get a call later that my grandma didn't make it through the surgery.
To top it all off, I used some of the wedding fund money to fly down there, it cost like $800 because it was last minute, and I'm in the middle of law school finals which I'm probably going to fail because I can't focus on studying, and I had to come back Monday morning for a final negotiation and I can't really afford to even fly down to see her. Although if I went now, if something is going to happen I would probably get there too late anyway. I can't imagine her not being at my wedding, it's all she's been talking about even in the hospital while she only talks a little bit with all the drugs she's on she's talking about her shoes for the wedding and earrings she wants to wear... she bought me my dress and veil and went shopping with me and everything... Now if she makes it at all she will have to fit a colostomy bag under her dress and would probably be in a wheelchair. Although that's all I'm even hoping for at this point.
Ugh, sorry this is so long, I wrote something like this before I left for Florida over the weekend (she moved there a few years ago with my grandpa) but it got erased. Just please pray that the surgery is successful and that she will survive this and be okay. I feel like I am so close to snapping and I can't handle all this stress. I would really appreciate any prayers anyone could spare and I will update later when I find out how she's doing. I am really willing to appeal to anyone and anything since praying is the only thing I can do to help her.
