I agree that wine types are probably more familiar to most people (especially if you are thinking of doing LI vineyards, which are certainly less well known than, say, California vineyards).
On the other hand, the nice thing about using vineyards is that it assigns a 'place' to the table. At the same time, though, it may seem as if you are advertising certain vineyards. Tough call.
All in all, I would vote for wine types.

Wino - Im getting married there also. Im using the Vineyard Names. Saying Im sitting at table PALMER is a lot easier than saying Im sitting at most of the names Jennbaby mentioned. Im having a bottles of wine from that vineyard at each table for the guests as my favors.

Is the vinyard reception place and actual vinyard?? if so, I would say types on wine. (maybe they can give you actual labels use for the bottles and you can make it into a table number....
Or do different wine from teh differnt LI wineries...e.g. pindar summer blush...

I like the vineyards better. Makes it more tailored to a LI vineyard wedding than one in the Finger Lakes or California or Italy or France or wherever. JMO

Hey..I say Vineyard names..Pellegrinin, pindar etc...I think it makes it more specific to Long Island and I like the idea about putting a bottle of wine from each vineyard at the table.
