UPDATED AT BOTTOM --- NO KIDS @ WEDDING.. IS THERE ANY WAY TO
Original post by Mrs_B
nicely say in the invite that there are no children allowed. my problem here is that FHs two cousins are thinking about bringing FIVE kids between the two of them (umm hellooo over my dead body thanks) We were thinking of maybe putting a cute poem about the fact that we dont want any rugrats there but arent sure how to word it. These are actually the only two people we might have a problem with as everyone else with kids WANTS TO HAVE A NIGHT OUT. I was trying to come up with a cute saying but cant seem to get the words. ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!

I called the only realtive i knew would have a problem with this and bring her 2 year old - I told her children under 10 were not allowed at the Winery becasue of potential hazards (staircaases, fireplaces, balconies, etc...) and then offered to set up a sitter for her. She was a little taken aback, but eventually thrilled to have it all set up for her. It was a lie, but I had to nip it in the bud.
I think you need to be direct with people - even if you have to fudge the truth a bit. Hinting around things allows for them to take advantage of the greay area.
Good Luck!
I was actually thinking about mentioning to them that we made arrangments for a sitter. I could just imagine them thinking to themselves 'Im not letting a stranger watch my child' --- EXACTLY so leave them home!

UPDATE------ FH just called his cousin and it didnt go well. the first thing out of her mouth was 'well i guess i cant come then' He told her he was really sorry and wishes we could make exceptions but it has to be all or none and thats just what we want for OUR day. Shes going to look into getting someone to watch her daughter. i feel really really bad but FH is adamant about it and since its his family that are the ones that EXPECT to bring their kids, then I need to respect what he wants. ill keep ya posted

I put we kindly request no children on the invitation. I had a issue where people were saying they werent going to come if they couldnt bring their kids so we had to put that. Who wants tons of kids running around, it ruins things!

dont worry if they dont come because of kids you need some nos anyway right, not to be mean but I would never think of bringing kids to a wedding unless they were in the bridal party.

I love the response cards that read:
The favor of a reply is requested by ____.
___ seats have been reserved in your honor.
Accepts ____ Regrets ____
Number attending____
Wish I had seen this before sending my invites!

My only fear would be that people would read this and think that 'YES's were not necessary since the seats are already reserved.
I guess you take a risk whatever you put.

Re: UPDATED AT BOTTOM --- NO KIDS @ WEDDING.. IS THERE ANY WAY TO
Children do not belong at a wedding. A few things happen: they get tired and whiney, then the parents can't have a good time, the children are wild and the parents don't do anything about it, one parent drinks too much and starts acting like the child who then in turn angers the sober parent....just way too much going on.
I was at a wedding once where one child about 6 years old knocked over the wedding cake. I cried for the bride.
My nephews were not invited to my wedding. There was no excuses, they just weren't invited.
However, at my cousins wedding (day wedding) all of her nieces and nephews were there (23 in total) They were so well behaved and what was neat was the fathers took care of all of the children.

i really like this idea!!! i've posted beofre about the issue i am having w/ my inlaws regarding no kids. this is a nice way to put it.
I put 'Adult Reception to follow' on my invites just to be safe. I had seen that quote about # of seats reserved after my invites were ordered and I love that!! But when i asked FH if we should get them re-printed, he said it was too much to put adult reception and ALSO put #seats reserved. He's so much nicer than me.
But I think he's right. It probably best to do one or the other.

Re: UPDATED AT BOTTOM --- NO KIDS @ WEDDING.. IS THERE ANY WAY TO
We have always had kids at the family weddings (I come from a huge family). I mean no one ever brings babies at all but there are always a few 5-10 year old and we have never ever had a problem. The kids were so well behaved, danced with their parents a few times and had a blast. I know its not always the case, but I guess i've been fortunate! They haven't detracted attention from anyone else and never caused disruptions. Its just tradition with us. MOST times the parents get a sitter anyway so it all works out.

Then that is their choice to make. But it is YOUR Day Do what YOU want & don't let the aunt & uncle or the cousins call the shots!!!!!!!

i feel your pain as we went through something similar. it amazes me how people can be so selfish and self-centered at such a happy and joyous time. i would tell your DH or FMIL to tell your aunt and uncle that you are disappointed w/ their decision and are offended that they cannot honor your wishes.
THEY are going to be the ones that will have to deal w/ their decision. do not let them spoil YOUR day. stand your ground and be firm.

What is with people who think they can bring random people? I read so many posts about... 'can I bring my girlfriend's hairdresser's accountant's landscaper?'
NO, it's NOT A FREAKING BARBECUE OR A BIRTHDAY PARTY. Get a babysitter and suck it up!!!
What is with this mentality that kids are entitled to attend everything that adults do? When did this happen? My cousins didn't want to leave their 11 year olds for the day. I hate to break it to them but their 11 year old daughter might want to be with her friends and not watch her parents dance a waltz.
Call them up and address the inner envelopes to the SPECIFIC people invited.
We spread the word early. Everyone I called to tell I was engaged (we booked the wedding the same week) I told them, NO CHILDREN, and no one NOT specifically invited.
Or you could do what my father in law suggested... ok, you can bring anyone you want... there is a $250 pp cover charge over and above the gift! Oh, you have to hang up now to call the babysitter, oh, ok' Problem solved
I like your way of thinking. I am having the same problem with my uncle who refuses to go anywhere without his two daughters who are 10 and 13. I told him that this is an adult reception and no children ar allowed. He even had the nerve to suggest that if it is a financial issue that he will send the money for thier plates. I told him that it is not a money issue I just do not want children at my reception. End of sorry. Why is this so hard for guest to understand?

How about adding Adult Reception in the corner of the invite.
