UPDATED :( Congenital Heart Defect--aortic coarctation?

My best friend just had a baby last Tuesday. Owen was born at 3:06 pm and he was 8lbs 15 oz. He is so beautiful! They just found out today that he has two heart defects and an aortic coarctation. He is unconscious and has to have surgery once he is stable enough to survive it.

Does anyone know anything about this condition? or any heart conditions in newborns? He's not even a week old, the poor little thing... please pray for them, he is their first baby. I feel so bad, and she lives 150 miles away, I can't even be there for her.

Thank you for your thoughts. I really believe that prayer will help... I thought all of you wonderful ladies would help him!!

Oh my that is awful, I feel horrible for your friends. I will definitely keep them in my thoughts.

I'm so sorry for the loss of little Owen I could not imagine going through such a thing. You are a good friend. I will keep your friends in my thoughts and prayers

I am so sorry!! That is so incredibly sad. I hope your friends know that this was not their fault and little Owen was meant to be an angel to protect them!! I hope that you and your friends and their entire family can take some comfort in knowing that Owen is watching over them now. I am so sorry. I can not imagine the pain that you are all going through. Lots and Lots of

Thank you all so much. It really means a lot to me.

My friend said the exact same thing--that she and her husband were supposed to protect him but now he's in heaven watching over them.

I wish I could help them. I was supposed to go down there but I couldnt' get in touch with her and maybe the family just wants to be alone. I will go down Monday night for the wake and Tues morning for the funeral. I am so afraid of seeing the little casket I am afraid it will be open... but then I don't think they would do that... no one i know (thank god) has ever seen a baby buried.
