Updated - Gabes fevers. I was right!

Sorry to post on this board but I really need the traffic. I'm not caring for my pediatrician right now.

I don't know what to do. Yesterday he had 106 fever. (ear thermometer) I didnt believe it so I took my own and it was 98.9 I gave him a bunch of Tylenol and rushed him to the doctor. On our way his fever was going down, 105.5, 104.4 and when they finally took him in 101.8 He also had a nebulizer treatment. His oxygen was low, but after it was almost fine so they sent us home. They told me just to keep his fevers down, keep him hydrated and give him a nebulizer treatment every 4 hours.

Well this morning we just woke up and he has a 104.5 fever again I gave him a bunch of Tylenol and will be giving him another nebulizer treatment.

Do you have any more advice though? I mean these high fevers are scaring me so much and they tell me just to keep it down! I feel like there should be more they can do? I think Im going to call them back when they open at 8:30 He keeps telling me his body hurts and hes thirsty. I just feel so helpless. Is there anything else I can do?

Well Gabe has had his ups and downs. I got him down to 99.5 I kept calling the doctors and they were saying its nothing. Virus.. Bla bla bla.

I decided this morning to take him in yet again and I got a new doctor who finally listened to me! She listened to his chest and actually blurted out 'oh my god, hes gurgling!' She said he has pneumonia so bad she doesnt need XRays to prove it. She also found a mass in his stomach. Im praying its constipation. We go back on Monday and then he needs to have blood tests.

The doctor also told me the same doctor disgnosed another boy as having a virus and he came back today and had pneumonia. Im surprised she told me that, btu she seemed angry. I think Im going to switch pediatricians.

Please say a prayer for my little man. I dont know how his body takes it. He gets sick so often :(

Omg Amy, I'm so sorry. I hope he gets better really soon. I was also very sick all the time as a child so I know what he must be going through. You're a great mom, I can tell.. and he will get better.
Sounds to me like you might want to stick to the Dr. that diagnosed him correctly.

OMG! Don't 'think' you're going to switch pediatricians... SWITCH pediatricians. Thank GOD you're a good mother and knew to bring him back! Now that you all know, you can help him get better. I hope he's feeling better SOON!

The practice I go to has MANY doctors. I was thinking of just requesting particular doctors but have decided to just go to the new ped I heard about in Coram. Im going to write a long letter to my pediatrician explaining why Im leaving.

I know this sounds weird but a girl I was talking to today said she always used to get strep and when she was like two she had a fever of 106. they took her to the hospital and they didn't know what was wrong and they wanted to do a spinal tap. The girl had had strep before and the mom argued that she wouldn't allow them to do the tap until they tested her for strep. And sure enough she had strep throat. I believe you get really achy when you have strep. Just a thought but I am no where near a doctor!

Thanks for the reply. They tested Gabe for strep on Thursday and today and it was negative. He definately has pneumonia. I believe the mass in his stomach was constipation. He just spent over an hour on the toilet and seems like a new kid. He feels much better in his belly area, thank God.

Thanks for all your thoughts. I hope the Augmentin kills the pneumonia now.

I forget the actual name of the practice, but they have an office in Shirley and and Holbrook.

Omg I think I used to go there as a kid. The one in Holbrook is on Union Ave right?
My mother SWORE by them and I HATED them.

i'm so glad you figured out what was wrong with gabe! that must have been so scary. you need to find a doctor you can trust. i'm glad he's feeling better!!
