UPDATED... Spoke to FMIL!! How many of you are buying PARENT ALBUMS from your photographer?

UPDATE:
Okay... So I told FMIL that I had to put my final order in with my photographer and wanted to know if she wanted me to order her a parent album. She said she really didn't have room or a need for one, and that she would really just like an 8 x 10 to display! So, in the long run, I'm just happy I didn't 'waste' money on something she didn't want anyway, and now I can apply that to additional pics I want in my album since I only get 32 PICTURES... not pages... PICTURES. I told her I was going to make her a Shutterfly album when I get the proofs, and she was very happy with that. Get this... I told MY mom, and she's like, 'don't get me an album either... get more pictures in your album. You can just make me a Shutterfly album, too. Save your money.' We'll see. I'd like my mom to have a professional one, even though it's WAY overpriced for 12 pictures!

I am thinking of taking off one parent album from my order through Patken and applying that towards more photos in our main album. (we currently only get 32 pictures)

Slightly bitter that we're not getting any $ towards anything for the wedding (sans rehearsal dinner) from FH's mom. In fact, she admitted to me that her family isn't into this whole BIG wedding thing anyway.

So... should I just make it the main album for us and one album for my parents (who are forking over the $5500 for the photographer... yes, JUST the photographer costs that much... along with $25,000+ more)? I would make a beautiful Shutterfly album once I get the digital proofs 6 months later to give to her for a much cheaper cost out of OUR pocket (maybe as a Mother's Day gift or something).

What should we do?

EDITED to say that that last choice isn't as tacky as I thought... I'm going to now offer her the option of receiving a parent album, which I found out costs $300!!! If she wants it, she can pay for it (then I get a credit of $300 to put towards more pictures in the main album, which I DEFINITELY WANT). If she doesn't, I will make her an album on Shutterfly to give to her as a Mother's Day gift (which I will probably also do for my mom as a bonus album since they're REALLY nice).

Our parent albums are part of our wedding package. Our parents are paying for any upgrade they want beyond what comes.

we got two parents albums i think..one for my mom and his mom , the we will give the video to the dads and moms on both sides

We're definitely giving her a DVD of the wedding - that's included in our package. (and I'm sure it's not a $300 chunk!). But paying for her to get a $300 album is extreme for something she just doesn't seem 'into'. She's a lovely person - and I really do love her... I just wish she would show a LOT more interest in this wedding and support us a little more. I will offer her the option to buy one for herself, but I don't see the need to foot the bill for a $300 album on top of $20,000 we're spending and $30,000 my parents are spending! If I offer to order one for her to buy, and she says NO, then I'll know it's not worth it to her (so why she we spend the money on it if she wouldn't?). If she wants to spend the $300 to have the album of our wedding, then fine! If not, We'll get her an 8x10 of the day in a nice frame and I'll make her a Shutterfly album - and ger more pics in our main album that I will care about obviously more than she will. I'm not trying to be mean... I just don't want to be stupid.

We got albums for both sets of parents,I felt that was the least I could do for them after all they have done for us..all of our lives I really don't know if it would've made a difference to my FIL's, but I know it really means a lot to my parents.

Parents albums came with the our package too.
Neither parents paid anything.

I had the parents album dropped out of my package, my parents are divorced which would mean ordering an extra one. I actually didn't go for any albums, my plan is to make up nice albums on I-photo to give to parents and Bridal Party after the fact.

I dont think you should spend the $300 on her for 12 pictures, but that's just me. Seems like a lot of money that you would rather spend elsewhere. But maybe you dont do an album for your parents either and save that money too and just do nice shutterfly for everyone?

we got 2 parent albums as part of our package. MIL wants additional pics so she is paying for the extra ones she wants beyond the # that comes in the album.

We arent doing parents albums. Both of FH's parents have passed away and my mom said that she doesnt need an album b/c she can make a much better album and we shouldnt spend the money on it. Our photographer is a family friend and I told him exactly what I wanted and got a good price.

Parent albums are included in my package but if it wasent I would still have paid extra for them.

I 'm just really bitter that she's just getting all the benefits without having to GIVE anything for it! Must be nice! I know I should just get over it... but I can't. Fine... maybe I'm shallow, but my mom is the one that is paying for the AWESOME photographer we're getting... it just REALLY bothers me. I know I'll probably get flack for this... it just TICKS me off. Sorry...

sarah, having met you, you aren't shallow and i totally understand your frustrations...even though my parents are on the other side of this...they aren't/can't contribute. well, since we are paying for our pics, no one is getting an album but us. if they all want one, they can make one with a little glue, the printer and a trip to target! that goes for FILs who are paying for everything else as well. we can't afford to add a single extra item to our package and no one wants to pay for it either. they'll all be able to ooh and ahh over ours over hte years.

aw! Thank you for just recognizing I'm just a bit frustrated at this point and not a bad person. I understand that my FH's family isn't 'into' big weddings, but that shouldn't be a reason to not support ours by helping out in some way. But... whatever. Anyway... I'm just very happy that I didn't waste $300 on a parent album that was never really wanted to begin with. .
