That's funny, my FH and I had looked at that house a few months ago. On that block there is the same house for sale with a huge extended kitchen. It was also vacant but needed a little work.

I saww that house on the internet. It is under contract, and the taxes are over $8000.
Did you see the huge house that was blown up and back across the street from this house? It was beautiful. Scott

I believe so. The house is empty. It is a 3 bedroom 1.5 bath house. New carpet, tile floor in the kitchen, stove, cabinets, counter tops, windows down stairs, walls, paint, Basement is huge and empty...All new electric, and plumbing. I liked the house but Danielle didnt like that it was sooo closed in and that it was a small house....There was no dining room....And the southern state was annoying. Scott

I grew up on the other side of Southern State. After a while you really don't hear the Parkway. The only times I would hear it, was when motorcycles would race down the parkway. I think it is a really good area, plus I am not exactly sure you would have to check, but it could be West Islip school district (even though it is a N.B. address) which seems to be a good school district.

Yes, Scott be careful! There is a guy on that block that decorates his house for the holidays(for childrens charties). Anyway, it gets VERY crazy over there. My best friends parents lived next door to him and finally had enough of people parking in their driveway, driving on their lawn, etc. that they sold their house and MOVED! However, they were 8 Kime I think. So 124 should be down the block a ways.

I didn't realize the taxes were that high. I thought it wasn't bad but my FH didn't like the bedrooms- they were a little small
Yes that house across the street was gorgeous, you couldn't miss it.

We arent going to move there...The school district is North Babylon.
The block was nice, but the blocks surrounding the house werent that nice...We looked at another house on French ave that we loved, on the other side of DPA, across from commack road.....What a nice area and a nice house. We decided on not buying a house because the mortgage was crazy...and the taxes were a little bit higher...but it was a bigger house...A splanch, and it was very open. My friend who is also looking for a house called the realtor last week and they said it was under contract.
Danielle gets annoyed with me because even though we arent in the market for a house right now, I still look and it drives her crazy....Oh well...

you will find a house when you least expect it. for example...we found our house with taxes in the 2500-3000 range. that was a huge turn on for use. We also found a respectable house less then 300k

The #1 thing that I reminded myself of when my DH and I were house hunting was 'If we are going to spend a boatload of $ - I better be getting what I want'.
So, if it were me, the fact that there was no DR and the Southern State runs past it - I would pass!

Scott, we live in North Babylon and are very happy so far. Everyone i know with children in the district are extremely happy with the schools. We are in the Poet Section. We are VERY borderline West Islip. I love our neighborhood.
Anyway, I will tell you what I know (honestly) from doing a LOT of research on the district. I am preggo now, so a baby is definitely in our future...
North Babylon has EXCELLENT elementry and middle schools. I have heard that the HS use to be bad and got a bad reputation but is improving. Now, we have 18 year till we have to worry about that. Who really thinks they will still be in NY in 18 years the way it is going. Our main concern was elementry and middle schools and safe, clean, quite neighborhood with excellent resale value (in case we move). We are EXTREMELY happy with our purchase! Taxes are high, yes. We pay $7,600. But we have a rental in our home.
If you would consider our neighborhood there is a GORGEOUS house on the next block from us. Colonial, I mean BEAUTIFUL. We want to move into it! :) It is going for 499K. Really NICE!
P.S. Don't take offense to the caps, just trying to stress my points! :)

Thanks...We actually stopped looking now...We are going to try to enjoy life for a bit before we dump all of our money into a house.
The house we fell in love with was $379k and the taxes were $6800. The house was completely redone inside and out
I like the area. I used to work on DPA when I was younger. I like the fact that there are a lot of stores that are very local.
Who knows what will happen in the future. Scott
