...try on dresses... ...pick out bridesmaid dresses... ...register... ...book DJ... ...book Florist... ...book photographer... ...book Limo... ...to my shower... ...to my bachelorette party ...to my wedding...
My wedding is not until June 2006, I am VERY organized and AR (anal retentive). I know exactly what I want for everything (excpet my dress) and want to do as much as I can now, just because I feel 'bored' (not sure that is the right word). Our E-Party is April 23, 2005 and I already have the invites printed and ready to mail out...IN FEB?!?! I want to make up the favors for the E-Party and stuff for that and the wedding. But I am afraid one or more of the following will happen, 1) I will change my mind about something and/or 2) I will get all I need to done, and then be sitting around going 'Now what?'.
AAAGAAGGAGAGGAG!!! FH helps by saying 'At least you have those things out of the way and done' MOH says 'Things will only get more hectic with the holidays coming'
But it doesn't help. I still have this need to do everything...NOW! Is it insane for me to do any/all of these things now? Many people look at me like I am insane when I tell them wedding is in 2006, then they look at me like I have 12 heads when I say I want to book vendors before the end of the year!
Thanks for 'listening' to my 'vent'. Don't feel much better, but it helps to talk to others. Thanks.

Re: *pout* I wanna go...(sorry-long 'vent')
I am the same way. FH and got engaged on March 9th and by April the majority of my vendors were booked. Certain things (like dresses) I think you should try to wait (although you can start looking) just because new styles come out and you may find you like something different. If you know what vendors you want to use and you are sure of it I don't see any problem with you looking into that now. You would be surprised, when I was booking my vendors some of them were already booking dates for 2007

Gosh, I couldn't imagine having that much time. We planned our wedding in 4 months and even in that short span of time I changed my mind about everything (and, yes, I'm very AR too!) I know things in NY tend to book quickly so I would start shopping around for vendors. As far as favors and other smaller details I would wait on those...your taste could totally change within the next year. For now, just enjoy being engaged!

I think you can definitely start booking vendors now. We got engaged nov 03 and started looking for halls in jan 04. The hall that we wanted didn't have much of may or sept 05 left so we have oct 05. I called about a band in jan and they were already booked for our date. I called a DJ in August and he was already booked also. You'd be surprised how fast some things book. Everyone kept saying you have plenty of time but we weren't able to get the DJ we wanted (he did my FBIL's wedding). Starting early will just ensure that you get your choice of vendors. Good luck and happy planning!

I think it is a good idea to start interviewing vendors now. If you tackle on thing at a time it might help. Start with photographer, spend a month or so meeting with as many as you can. Then move to DJ, limo, etc.. That will help keep your mind occupied!

It is definitely not too early. You will have plenty of time to choose your vendors without pressure that they will be already booked. I did the same thing!

Added Update... Another thing that is kind of getting to me is FH's family. When we told his family that we had set the date, we were all out to dinner, and FH tells them we booked the hall and the date. I swear their reaction was like he'd jst said 'That carrot ir orange.' ALso, the only family I have here in NY is my brother, who's awsome, but it's tough to involve him in all the aspects of wedding planning, like for opinions or such taht I would go to my mom for. My mom lives in Illinois, and we see each other once maybe twice a year. I get a long with FH's mom and sister. But there is a language barrier with FH's mom and I (She speaks spanish, minimal english). Also I feel like FH's sister and SIL get along way better than either of them with me. The go out all the time and hang out all the time, meanwhile FH's sister lives in suffolk, FH's SIL lives in Queens, 5 min from me. I have 2 MOH's one of which is in VA, the other one is here and is great. But she has her own life and I can't expect her to do everything with me (FH works nights, I work days so I am doing ALOT of planning by myself). Not sure why all of the sudden this is getting to me. Not PMSing. Ho-hum.

Re: Updated...*pout* I wanna go...(sorry-long 'vent')
I have changed my mind a million times on almost EVERYTHING other then my hall and my dress ( though I went through tons of whats if's with the dress) And I had 1 year to plan...
I changed my tiara twice ( now not using one) , my entire color scheme, my jewelry, girls dress's and thus the color's...invites 150 times, cake topper, guest book, candles etc... DONT do anything major...things like Dj's, Florists, Limos'..you can book those and start researching and having fun with those things . I think thats the best thing to start doing..and of course your dress....

i wouldnt do dresses - but big stuff like the hall and the limos and stuff like that do now - and also the band - they tend to book way in advance so you will know that is done - dont stress - i know you want to plan and do it all ahead - i did that too but alot of it will be last min stuff - just can be helped

Re: Updated...*pout* I wanna go...(sorry-long 'vent')
Thanks. I guess what really is buggin gme is I feel so 'alone' in the planning (except for you gals here) process. Due to FH's schedule I am stuck going to most/all appt's by myself.
Another thing that gets to me is his family. They all seem to have a 'whatever' attitude. I tried showing FH's SIL ideas of dresses and such (she's a BM), and she seemed to be all 'oh, ok, whatever'. FH says they are like that b/c the wedding is so far away. Hello? It's 1 yr and 9 mos away. I know that seems far off, but it's almost Oct, then it's the holidays (which always seem to fly by), then our EParty in April, then it's only 1 yr away. FH's sister planned her wedding in just under 6 mos. FH's brother planned theirs in 4 mos. Here we are taking our sweet a$$ time (b/c we are paying for it and want it to be nice).
AAGHAIHGAHG!!!!!! Ok, I feel a little better.
Thanks for letting me vent here!
