A friend at work asked me about this area but I never looked there so I dont know about it at all. I would appreciate any help. BTW, I am still in limbo with my house.

Re: What do you know about Bellport?
the only 'nice' part is South of Montauk Hwy on the water where the homes are close to a million dollars. Bellport is NOT a place your friend should be looking to buy ah ouse UNLESS it's by the water. Schools not good either

Re: What do you know about Bellport?
We drove through there to meet with my officiant, who lives on the water in a huge mansion in Brookhaven. Bellport was SCARY--lock your doors and avoid eye contact scary. There were several cop cars patroling the streets, and tons of people loitering in the streets. The homes I saw looked very run down. Definitely tell her to take a drive through the neighborhood before even considering it.

Re: What do you know about Bellport?
I grew up in east patchogue, but went to bellport schools and worked in bellport town.
The school district isn't the best!!!!! The elementry schools are okay, but once you hit the middle and high schools, it stinks!
North Bellport is the BAD area! Anything south of montauk highway is very nice especially the town. There are lots of nice stores and it is a friendly town. The surrounding towns are okay too, such as east patchogue and brookhaven. But definately I wouldn't even consider it unless the home is south of montauk highway.
If you have any specific questions, feel free to FM me.

Re: What do you know about Bellport?
Bellport (except South of Montauk Highway, as mentioned) is HORRIBLE! Station Road is really scary. I avoid going that way whenever I have to go to Bellport. But as JAR823 said the village is really cute, but I be very careful buying a home there.

Patchogue has some very good and very bad areas. One of my friends teaches in the H.S. and said it has gotten much more violent in the past few years...

I have to tell you if she is looking in to Patchogue, she should also look at Medford. A lot of young families have been moving in there and you can get a lot of house for your money

i don't know much about patchogue, but i can say that all areas have good and bad parts, and lots of High School's are more violent than they used to be. I work in one, and know other people that do as well.

Patchogue has come up in the last few years. There are a lot of old, beautiful homes in that area but there are also alot of rentals to alien workers. I mean alot. Just cruise down main street and turn left onto River (across from the old swezys). Your friend should drive around these towns they may be interested in and look what is going on. What are the conditions of local houses, how are storefronts in the business districts and what type of people do you see on the streets? Peabody made me drive around our neighborhood at least two hundred times at all hours of the day and night so we could get a feel for the area. Best of luck but I would keep looking.

I think you can get a good deal on a Patchogue home that is in a decent part of town. Problem is, you won't be far from some high-crime areas. But there are some nice patches.
East Patchogue is less nice (I think) than regular Patchogue, and regular Patchogue is nicer the closer you get to the water (south of Montauk).
But as someone here said, drive around, esp. at night, and talk to some of the shop owners and people in town and see what they think.

I have to tell you,we didn't even consider Patchogue. I student taught here and my Mom lives in East Patchogue and I just didn't have a good impression based on the one end of the village and what I saw in the HS when I student taught there (96)
I have to tell you being back here the past month and driving around with my Mom and I mean really driving around to areas that I have never been before or seen, I am pretty impressed by the area. Even DH was like why didn't we think about this area. The HS has put a HUGE extension on the school. Saxton still remains an INCREDIBLE school, and in Patchogue and Medford you really can get a lot of house and property for your money.

Thank you everyone. I am printing out all these wonderful responses and letting her read them. I knew I could count on all of you once again.
