I usually ride with the luggage so this is all new to me. If we have economy tickets (used frequent flyer miles to get them) can we ask for availability of first class seats the day we check in? And if so, can we use more miles for that or is is $$...how much usually to upgrade?

seriously, though, upgrades are expensive if you pay for them. i would love to get one courtesy of my 'newlywed' gear.

Though it sometimes happens (a free upgrade) it has been happening less and less. In part because aircrafts are so full right now.
If you have miles that might be the way to go.

Yes, they can. But you should call ahead and do it. this way you’ll know for sure if there’s availability.

We need to get you a 'Just Married' hoodie and hopefully you can get upgraded for free. That is what I am hoping for. Or you can call and check to see how many miles it is now and do it beforehand. I think Julz33 got upgraded for free because of the hoodie.

I think it depends on where you are flying to. We bought our tickets but used miles to upgrade to Hawaii. It was 30,000 miles for each of us for the upgrade to first class . A lot of miles but TOTALLY worth it!
