Re: UPK Teachers/Early Childhood Teachers
HI Cindy!
If you are in a district with a UPK program, you would be paid the same as any other teacher provided your program is an all day program. kindergarten teachers are also on the same pay scale as primary/intermediate teachers.
some districts have half-day kindergarten programs and if you only have the morning session or only the afternoon session, your salary would be half of a full-time teacher. in my district, we have a kindergarten 'plus' program. the district only has kindergarten until 1:00 PM. Our Plus classes run until 3:00 PM (these parents acutally pay the district extra for a full-day program) . those teachers are paid extra for the additional teaching time they put in, where has the non-plus teachers are only considered .7 time as opposed to 1.0 (full-time).
I would say if you have a Masters degree and a year or two of full-time experience, you could expect on average about $50,000. Some districts will be more, but most won't be too much less.
I know you taught in catholic school, i am not sure if all districts on Long Island count that as years of experience for your payscale. (you are put on a 'step' based on your education level and years experience.) for example, a teacher with a Masters degree and no experience will make slightly more than someone with just a bachelors. but someone with a bachelors and more experience will make more than someone with just a Masters...
