upset with Macys Registry

upset with Macys Registry

So I've been having major dilemma's on where to register. BBB is the best but not for sheets so I was torn between fortunoff's and macys. I decided to go with macys because they have a bigger selection ONLINE.

Every Macys has a different selection and they will order anything they don't have in the store (which is most things). Did you know your guests have to pay $15 shipping and handling even if they go to a Macys store to purchase your gift.

Many items like silverware, china, crystal, luggage each store doesn't stock and most will have to be ordered. I was very unhappy today when I wanted to purchase something for myself off my registry and I had to pay shipping.

Just thought I'd share. I might go back to Fortunoff's for that reason.

they never gave me that option and I told them I was upset with the shipping charges.

Also if your guests go in a week before your shower, there will not be enough time. The item I purchased won't even be shipped until Jan 11.

They send cards to let you know a gift was purchased for you. Does that mean at your shower, your opening a lot of cards saying somethnig was purchased for you.

anyone have experience with them yet?

i just bought a gift for a friend that the gift wasn't in. I gave it in a lil card box that macy's wrapped and she opened it up at the shower knowing that she will be gettting her gift shortly.

the only thing you have to be careful and i dont know if this is for all registrys or just macys, but a friend of mine ordered a wine cooler for a friends bridal shower, and they said it would take 10 days for it to get to her, (her shower was like 2 days away) so she figured it would be safe to purchase it, and by the time her shower was over she'd get the cooler...well macys sent it the next day and she got the cooler, and knew something was up, b/c she was getting gifts....

also, prices online are cheaper than in stores by a lot. I registered for a griddle. It was $49.99 on my registry sheet when I left macys. I went home to see my registry online and it was $29.99.

I was told they post west coast prices on their website and will honor those prices. BUT, your guests need to know this.

I had this problem once when I was purchasing a gift for a friend, I looked up her registry online and decided what to purchase, went to the store where it was $30 more expensive. I had to go to the registry country and have them look it up and go through all this BS to get it at the lower price.

Many people will not know there is a difference in price if they don't use the internet.

Thank you sooo much for that info! I haven't done a registy yet and Macy's was one place I was planning on looking. BBB is my number one. I want to also look into fortunoff for china.
Thanks again!

FYI...I just switched over my china from Macy's to Fortunoff because it seemed they are always giving bonuses with my set (Lenox Pearl Innocence). Definitely check both places before your register for it

Macy's has alot of quirks, and what ifs.. I'm not comfortable with them at all.. I've had friends go through all kinds of stuff when registering, updating and EXCHANGING gifts... I'll pass.

Re: upset with Macys Registry

I have had a great experience at Macys.

If you can get to the city, the Herald Square people are awesome. Barbara Ciolitti there even looked into when my china would be cheapest for me and when the soup bowl would be free and emailed to remind me! They also have a coat check whenever you shop there and even will hold your bags for you. The best part is you get certain bonuses just for registering for things here. I got a vase for registering for Monique Lulh stuff, placemats for registering for waterford and all clad measuring cups for registering for all clad. If certain of those or other things are bought, I get additional bonuses. For example, my mom bought my fine china settings and since it was over 10 settings = i will get a freevegetable bowl.

I am a big macys fan - the have more coupons, you get 5% back in a gift cards and you get 10% back for everything you charge on your own card - those are great bonuses!

I also registered at fortunoff. I think its ok. Still get 5% back but none of the other perks!

BBB also does the free gifts for registering for certain things and completion gifts. They're prices are also much cheaper than Macys...

I also think they told me at Macys, they will match prices. So will BBB.

If I can find bedding I like at Fortunoff's, I would register there over Macys
