so i didnt know that the priest we met with when we booked the church was going to be the one that does our wedding...
I called today and found out. let just say I am not happy. The priest we met with has such a thick accent that it was hard to understand him and we were right in front of him. i cant imagine having my guests struggle to understand what is being said. I dont mean to offend anyone but I want to be able to understand what the priest is saying at my wedding. the woman on the phone told me that i should contact the priest and tell him that I am looking for another priest. i told her i couldnt do that bc i cant tell him the reason and I dont want to lie to him.
well after a very long phone convo, she said she would leave a note for the priest that I want and he should be calling me back.
Am i wrong for feeling this way????

i don't think so, b/c honestly i've been to ceremonies where the priest couldn't be understood and it was kind of annoying. hopefully they can accomodate you. keep us posted

I think you have every right to want a specific priest, regardless of the reason.
When I called my church, I asked for someone specific because i've known him since kindergarten (I attended the church's school) and i REALLY didn't like the head priest (I find him pompous and demeaning).
But even without the personal connection, shouldn't churches give you a choice of priests? I mean you get to pick everything else for your wedding, you should be able to do the same for the priest!

right and if they give us a hard time, we have no problem taking out $800 and going else where.

omg, I had the same problem...
Basically, I had spoken with the priest over the phone a few times to set up the date. He was very nice and all, but he had a very thick accent and I struggled to understand him. When he left me voicemails I had to listen 3 times to figure them out. The last time we spoke he said to call back 6 months before the wedding to start setting everything else up and bring our baptismal certificates in. When I called the rectory, I talked to the receptionist and explained that I had scheduled the wedding with this one priest, but told her that I felt awful for saying it, but that I just wasn't comfortable with that priest b/c I had a difficult time understanding him. She ended up having a deacon return my call and now I have a meeting set up with him.
I think it is okay to be honest in as tactful a way as possible. Maybe try to see if there is a deacon or another priest that is available to speak with. It's not an easy subject to bring up, but I think it is important to feel comfortable about your wedding day. I'm sure this priest is aware that he has an accent and I'm sure that he has experienced some difficulty in communicating with other people before.

thats what she said. She asked me if a deacon is ok for my wedding, i told her i didnt care as long as my wedding would be legit.

no you're not wrong. I am debating over the same issue. my FH has grown up to see some very animated priests ...but the priest who will be marrying us has a VERYYYYY thick accent and he is VERY soft spoken. FMIL advises us to see if we can get someone FH remembers from childhood.
FH has a deacon in the family so who knows...we shall see.

Absolutely not!!! When you take your vows you should be able to have the person you want to marry you. When i set my date and 'booked' the church, i asked for a specific deacon because one of the priests married my sister and he dragged on so much that he sounded intoxicated. Usually they do not have any sour feelings about it.

Re: upset with my church...VENT
i really think its disgusting that the church these days 'asks' for such a big donation to perform one of the sacraments for 'c*****t's' sake. I dont remember reading in the bible that jesus asked for any money. (sorry, had to vent but $800 is a bit much)
