feed your band, photographer, videographer, etc????

We went to our catering hall yesterday, and our baquet manager mentioned that we have to feed our band, photographer & videographer, etc. Not only that we have to do that, but we will also pay for them a full price that we are paying for any guest. Honestly, this is something I was not planning on doing, as band alone is 11 people+ others. That would come out to be an additional $2,000 expense before tax & service charge.

Girls, I need opinions!!!!!!!!!!! How many of you are planning on doing it?

My RH is only charging 35.oo per vendor!!

Ive never heard of a RH charging full price! Better get them on the phone!

I will feed them and we are considering a band. Our RH only charges $35 per vendor unless its a house vendor then they eat free.

we are feeding all of our vendors- the price is 1/2 not full price. I never heard of anyone paying ful price for their vendors.

Check with RH becausey you should definitely get some kind of discount for feeding vendors. I am going to be feeding vendors. They're working hard for me all night and I want to make sure they've got energy!! I know what your saying though because I feel like everything is Cha Ching!!!

All are fed. Usually when the band takes a break that is when they eat.

My hall is not charging any vendor that is a house vendor. My other vendors are 1/2 off.

It was in our contracts that they all get fed at 1/2 price.

I believe it is customary to feed your vendors that will be at the reception - photog, videog, band - I can't believe you don't get a discount on them though

I second that-- especially for the band/dj. They're working what, 4-5 hours?? They can't go that long without eating?? I was at a wedding a few months ago where the band took so many breaks that they barely worked a full 3 hours at the reception AND they were fed the same that the guests were. Not that I don't want someone to eat-- but we're paying for their service- and then feeding them as they take a break during it? I mean- I'll do it because I wouldnt want to give them a reason not to give us 100%-- but I think it's totally nuts. Woodbury CC said that they would charge half price-- or make up a platter for them- or we could bring in our own sandwich platter free of charge if we wanted- I thought it was nice of them to offer that.

My halls offers it for 1/2 price. So yes, I'm doing it, plus I don't want them to be hungry! It is a lon day and night thay they'll be with us!

They may be working but they are not your slaves. Normal people need to eat after 5 or 6 hours. The DJ and band may not but the photographer, DOC videographer and anyone else who is with you the whole day should be fed. Not only is it the polite and gracious thing to do, but why ON EARTH would you want your photographer to feel hungry or uncomfortable or dizzy from hunger? I know I get light headed and extremely grumpy after not eating for five hours. WHY WHY WHY have a reason for your pictures and video and service to not be as perfect as they could be after you have paid thousands of dollars for them???

I would say don't feed them if you are comfortable with them leaving your reception for 30-45 minutes to find something to eat nearby. Check with your RH as they may be able to make a simple pasta meal for them that doesn't cost as much.

Cocktail hour may or may not work. Are you taking pictures during cocktail hour? If not, that's usually a great time to take candids of guests as they are not stuck at tables. If you don't mind your vendors missing that, then that could work.

At my wedding, I was furious at my RH because they refused to let my vendors eat during the cocktail hour because they weren't guests. I had to have my DH go rip them a new one and explain that EVERYONE is a guest of ours that day. Plus, we paid for their meals.

thats really ridiclous..
anyway talk to the vendors about it.. usually if they are going to be there more than 4 hours they are going to want to eat.. Let them eat during cocktail hour also..they deserve it.. people get hungry after working that long..

I plan on feeding them.. Think of the photo and video people for example, they are with you ALL day and dont really take a break. .or they may miss a good photo op.. i think its only right that you feed them IMO

I fed my band and all of my vendors. I paid a 1/3 for them I believe. I think it is nice to feed your vendors especially since they are with you all day and night!

I am very surprised that your hall would charge full price for vendors. I think you should speak to them about that!
