Re: use for empty baby food jars?
Ugh! I went through the same thing, I hated throwing them out. But they dont want them at schools (rather have plastic) and one of my Mom's friends who is very crafty didnt want them. I finally started tossing them. However, Gereber has these great plastic rectangular containers of baby food. They have nice lids and all. I am saving those and have hundreds of uses with them.
Sorry, can't help with your original question

Re: use for empty baby food jars?
ok ...didnt know about the plastic containers. Julianne will be in full time daycare starting 6/30 ..they did not say anything about rejecting glass containers. I guess if I became industrious, I could make my own food and store them in those containers...
argh..thanks ELizabeth

Re: use for empty baby food jars?
I have been making some baby food, so I have saved about 15-20 jars. The rest I put in the recycle bin. I just started reading Super Baby Food and they give some simple ideas for making the food. If you decide to try I suggest this book. It gives suggested feeding amounts, when to try foods, how to introduce them, etc.

Phly- I don't think she meant that the daycare center does not use glass baby food jars with baby food in them. I think she meant that the schools do not use them for projects or to hold stuff in. I am also going to try to make my own baby food. At least for a while anyway. It is not hard at all and very inexpensive. Phly-maybe you can make a few things and use the jars or else I would recycle them.

Re: use for empty baby food jars?
Seriously, I do not understand the question. Why would you keep a bunch of jars? I saved ONE jar - the very first jar of Stage One Applesauce that Paul ever ate. It is going into his baby time capsule. Other than that, we have been recycling the jars from the very beginning. No reason to have them hanging around. It sounds like garbage collecting.JMO.
something like a pyramid...and then in the back she sets up lights in each one...

Re: use for empty baby food jars?
LOL Yes I meant I was trying to find a use for them too and thought schools would want them for projects. I would think daycare would be fine with you bringing Julianne's food in them.
LOL LOL Claud! It just felt wasteful to toss them...and in Queens they no longer even recycle glass so it all goes right in with the other trash. Our garbage bags jingle and jangle ALOT. I got over it though. I never thought to save one a memento. Cute idea.

I use glass baby food jars in my classroom. I guess I'm a rebel.

Re: use for empty baby food jars?
I cant see a reason to keep them either. do we keep soda cans and bottles ? unless i need 1 or 2 for something, i'll save them the day I need them. other than that, throw that pile out ! im not one for wasting things either, but this is just something useless.. unless we do think of a good idea !
ETA: Ok, you knew i couldnt resist the urge to do a search on this. Look what I found (jenn, good idea for a class project!!) FUN CRAFTS FOR KIDS Baby Food Jar Garden

Re: use for empty baby food jars?
Al has a problem throwing out glass jars (like the Classico sauce ones, pickles, etc). We have some saved and they're useful, but he likes to save them all! I get rid of them when he's not looking.

Anna, we did a similiar project this year. We made rain forests in pickle jars!

Re: use for empty baby food jars?
Well, I did not know that some towns stopped recycling glass -why? I guess if there are any crafters or teachers out there that want some jars, I'd be happy to save them for you! Just say the word!
