Ushers?

Is anyone assigning people to be ushers at their wedding?? I never even heard of this until FH told me last night that he's an usher at FSIL's wedding...I asked him 5x if he was sure he didn't mean GM but he said no, he's an usher. Sooo...he has to help people to their seats??? It sounds like...kind of like 'I wanted to involve you but you're not really important enough to be in the BP sooo you can have this BS job'

Which...I can understand that for some people in your life, you just want to honor them by being involved...but...that's her BROTHER...I don't get it

A lot of people call groomsmen ushers...you can have your groomsmen do it if you want

I am going to have some of my cousins do it. They are going to get corsages/bouts and that way they can be included without being in the bridal party...we're not THAT close, but I don't want to cause family drama lol

Basically they'll hand out programs

eta: I didn't really read the question all the way through lol. I think it's not necessarily a slight--if he's being treated like he's in the bridal party (wearing a tux, etc) then it's the same thing as being a groomsman. I know a lot of people who say a bride has a moh and bms, and a groom has a bm and ushers...I think it's just a semantic issue

It's really weird to not have her brother in the BP, but if her FH has a lot of friends or family members, brothers of the bride don't have to be in the party!

I think ushers are a good idea for the bride's good male friends or family members, like cousins, that aren't THAT close to the bride and groom!
