I have yet to give my son a blanket at night. I'm still paranoid about SIDS. I still check on him everynight before bed. He sleeps all night without one, but I just didn't want him to get cold or anything. Do you give your 15 month old a blanket at night? Should I be giving him one?

Re: Using a blanket...
I have no idea, but my 7 month-old uses blankets....I would think your son would be old enough. I think the risk of SIDS dramatically decreases somewhere after 6 months...I could be mistaken though.

Re: Using a blanket...
Thanks for asking the question, Melissa. I was wondering the same thing. My 10 month old has never used a blanket for the same reason.
But, jillybean, does the blanket stay on your little one?

Re: Using a blanket...
I've always used a blanket with Amber and everyone knows I'm the 'chicken little' of SIDS. For the first seven months, she slept in the bassinet next to my bed, so I could keep an eagle eye on her that it didn't go over her head, etc. When she went to the crib, I let her sleep with an afghan my grandmother knitted because I felt like it had enough ventilation qualities that she could not suffocate. I usually try to tuck her in it but she does wriggle free. I've even caught her pulling it over her butt at night because that side of the house tends to get cold. I always make sure she's bundled up for bed too (onesie w/jammies).

Nick moves around SO much, but oddly the blanket stays on him! I have used the blanket since I stopped swaddling him.

Emily sleeps with a blanket too. She's 8 months and has recently started to cudle up with the corner of her blanket to help her fall asleep. It's really cute.

James has always slept with a blanket....The Nurses in the Nicu always had one on him....they would tuck the sides into the crib/isolett...when I brought him home I just continued to tuck the blanket in the side of the bassinet and crib....(but I always keep his arms on top of the blanket)

Re: Using a blanket...
Wow... I didn't think this many people uses a blanket? I guess I'm the odd one! He sleeps fine without one, I just thought that maybe he'd like one. He uses one at daycare. He does move around a lot though while he's sleeping. The blanket he uses at daycare is an afghan blanket type. I got it at Target, but it's got all the wholes and everything. What kind of blanket does everyone use?
I'm also in NC so with the weather here, he probably doesn't really need one, but I know I can't sleep without a blanket!
Thanks girls!

Re: Using a blanket...
Molly LOVES blankets...so she sleeps cuddled with one. I did NOT give them to her at night until she was 10 months old. SIDS is VERY uncommon past a year..in fact I have never read about SIDS past a year.

Re: Using a blanket...
Tara is 9 1/2 months and I started giving her a blanket about 2 or 3 weeks ago. I think 15 months is fine for it. Just try to give him something he cant get tangled in. I have a crib quilt and it works much better than a fleece blanket. Iif she moves around, she stays untangled.

Re: Using a blanket...
I have used a blanket with marissa since she was born. She moved around alot at night as well but she makes sure that blanket is on her she also likes to cuddle with the blanket against her face so I got nervous with this so I went out and got one of those little security blankets that have the characters bodies on them like a stuffed animal with the blanket and she loves it.
