We have gotten a ton of engagement gifts (no party, people are just sending them). Are we allowed to use them? I'm not sure what the etiquette on this is.
I'm just not sure if the rule of not using them until you're married was created around the same time as the rule that you don't live together before you're married. We've already broken that one so I was wondering what we should do about this one.

I am the type that says you dont use them before you are married, to me its bad luck.
However I knwo alot of people who did use their stuff.....

We are not using most of them - really the only thing we opened and are using is the coffee maker because we needed one and didn't have one - also the dustbuster, scale. But I am not replacing old things with new things right now - those are all being saved.

At the request of my superstitious mom we did not use our engagement presents because we are not married yet-bad luck

I've been using mine and we've had no problem... I never heard of not using them before you get married... aren't they engagement gifts? If they were wedding gifts, then that would be a different story.... I don't know why you can't use them?

I used them ASAP, and my shower presents as well. I think it's silly to wait, when I can use my new luxurious towels right now! (I love my towels!) And my George Foreman grill too. JMO.
Although a lot of the stuff I won't use until I have a dining room, I would use it if I did.

we are using them! we didnt have a party but keep getting gifts, id had to have them all boxed away... i figure im getting more use of them if i start using it now

i used the gifts - not all b/c I don't have room, but I did use pots/pans, serving pieces and some other things...doesn't bother me - it was for my engagement to start us off !
