USING YOUR MONOGRAM NOW

Ok this is a little debate I am having with a few people and wanted to get your opinion.

With respects to your Monogram, would you use it now for anything like on your invites? or are you waiting until the actually reception to use it (Menu's, favors, etc....)

reason I ask, I am having a tag on the cover of my invite and I was either going to use our Monogram which is in my avatar pic or just our names and wedding date. Obviously since my last name is not with a 'C' yet, I was saying that I should not be using that on my invites.

Agree, disagree or who the hell cares either way?

I agree with you. I'm making my own invites and I needed an image on it and FMIL and FH suggested using our future monnogram and I said 'no' because that will not be our monnogram until after we're married. Therefore, I will be using it on menus, favors and as our cake topper.

I don't see anything wrong with using it now (i.e. putting it on your invitations). I've seen lots of invites with monograms.

fh and I are doing something similar...
we will have both of our names on a tag for our invite with the inital of his last name, my new last name on it.

Oh I don't think it matters if you use your monogram before you are married... The whole point of the wedding, the ceremony and the reception is the joining of two people- coming together to be married... Therefore, you becoming Mrs. C... So, I think that using it before-- on invites and such is OK b/c it is FOR the wedding.

Does that make any sense? It's early lol-- I hope I was able to convey my point.

We are using our monogram on our invitations. It is not the same as our aisle runner (we are only using an M for the) but I don't think there is anything wrong with using it before.

I think on the invited is ok. I was going to use it on my shower registry card (FMIL is asking for one card with all 3 regisrty numbers) since I have a design behind my monogram, I am going to use the names and design but not his last name initial. But if you want ot use it on YOUR invitations, then you should

You know what I never thought about that!!!! After reading your post I just realized that the monogram only applies 'after' the wedding!!!!!!!! lololol HOW FUNNY ALL MY INVITES have the monogram!!!!!! Oh well....too late now!!!!!

Ohhhh....this is one of those details that is tough....perhaps you can google Emily Post's Etiquette guide on marraige and monograms....I've used that for EVERYTHING.
Personally, I think either way is okay, but I do know that the brides maiden name is technically correct throughout the entire process, and should only be switched to husbands initial after the wedding.

According to etiquette experts you should not use your married monogram before the ceremony because technically it's not your name yet. I went through this debate with someone a while back when I was choosing our invitations. I finally decided to just use our first initials.

Bari , I agree with you,, I wont feel comfortable using it on the invites either , as we are not married yet when they go out,, But everything from the chruch on will have it,,

I agree. I wouldn't use it for a Thank You card for, say, bridal shower gifts, or wedding gifts received before the wedding, but I don't see a problem with using it for the invitations since the invites are for the wedding where you two become one etc.

ETA: Yes *technically* it is not your last name initial and I do believe etiquette books will tell you not to use it for that reason, but my opinion is that you are announcing that you two will become one and that will be your new name.

We're not using our monogram until we're officially married.... but i don't really see anything wrong with putting it on the invitation, we're just choosing to wait!

I don't think there is a right or wrong here, I think it is a personal choice. If you want to do it, do it.

ME TOO.. my invite has a tag onthe fornt and i think we are gonna use out monogram too

I'd wait till your officially married. I just think it's proper etiquette. But being that you don't care either way.... it's your choice. I only say this cause your NOT married yet.
