It's been a long time since I've had one and now I've got one. How long after I start the antibiotics should I be back to normal?

I think any pain should stop that day but the bacteria takes about a week of meds to go away.... hth

ughh sorry that is the worst feeling in the world- usually i start feeling slightly better a couple hours after the first dose & then all cleared up within 2-3 days- but always finish the medicine

So weird that you asked this question bc I have the mother of all UTIs! I started antibiotics yesterday, so hopefully I'll be ok in a few days. I'd give it about 3-4 days.

Depends on the medicine. Sometimes it takes me 7 days before I am totally better!

i just wanted to add- drink a lot of cranberry juice- i used to get them frequently (like every 2 mos)- and I started taking a cranberry supplment and have only had one in about a year

Ugh!!!! So sorry!!! I know its a horrible feeling. Mines clears up in about 5 days depending on how much cranberry juice I drink.

It usually takes 2-3 days to feel better but my last one took like 5 days before i felt totally better! Guess it depends on how bad they are.

I had gone through this..it takes a few days for the anitbidoics to start working..last year I had this and on top of it a Staph Infection!!! YIKES!!!

OMG i have one too, just went to the drs yesterday and he gave me this pill, which when i got home relized i had taken it b4 and it didnt work, so i called to get a new script, but usually you feel better in about 2-3 days

UGH so sorry Jess they stink. I used to buy some stuff from the drugstore, AZO, that didn't get rid of the UTI but definitely helps with the pain, in case you need something while the drugs kick in. It turns your pee bright orange but it's a lifesaver. The pills will stain anything they touch so be careful. I used to keep a few - wrapped - in my carry-around makeup case, and I guess one got loose, because suddenly, everything was yellowy-orange!!!!

it should be a few days, but continue the antibiotics until they're finished (usually a week as per MD order). drink lots of fluids to flush everything out.. and cranberry juice (100% juice and NOT the cocktail b/c it has lots of sugar in it and doesnt contain as much cranberry). cranberry juice helps to acidify the urine and it kills the bacteria.. feel better!

Ugh, those are the WORST! I think it took a few days, but be careful you dont get a yeast infection on top of it from the antibiotics. That is the ULTIMATE worst.
