Okay, so this is intentionally vague in case people read it. So someone asks me how much photography will cost, and I said that I expect to spend between 3-5k and they're like 'what??? that's so much for someone to take pictures for a day, you're not going to look at them much...etc' Can someone tell me that I'm normal? Ughhh. And the person completely underestimated what any reputable photographer would charge...
just starting my photog search, but 3-5k seems like the going rate at most places. In addition, I don't know who this person is, but it really isn't any of there business how much you spend. I think the photos are very important and if you do to, then you should spend whatever you feel comfortable spending. They will be the only thing you really have from the wedding when all is said and done. I will look at my pics every day! Do what makes YOU happy!
seriously they have no idea how fast this crap adds up. I know one night we were at my fh's nannys talking about halls and my fhs uncle said yeah weddings are like 30-50,000 easily and my ffil said no wayyy
Don't worry you are very normal!!! Like everyone else says .. ppl have no idea how expensive weddings can be. It's crazy!!!! And yea it may seem crazy to spend $3-5K on photography alone but what counts is the quality of the work.

You are normal! Most reputable photographers cost alot of money and it depends on what you want. Nobody can relate to how much a wedding actually effing costs!!!! Its so frustrating.

I think people who got married anywhere from 5+ years ago are in a lil sticker shock with the raise in prices and anyone who doesn't live in NY just wouldn't understand NY prices. My aunt who live on a boat in the middle of no where is complete confused and in absolute shock at how much anything would cost, she just keeps saying 'your whole wedding is more the 5k??!?!! How? Why??? Are you trying to be a celebrity?' hhahaha

I know this doesn't really pertain to the response, but your aunt lives on a boat!??!
As for the 5k wedding, IMPOSSIBLE. Unless you have <20 guests or do it in your house.
That price is totally normal!! Were paying in that range for our photographer. People just don't understand how much things cost for weddings.
