Have any of you seen the grounds in summer? I am contemplating taking pics at an arboretum, but it will be inconvenient as I am having an 11:30 am ceremony at the mansion. Would love to get them all done there. what are you guys doing?

I saw them in august or september and they looked very nice. I only get in the vanderbilt an hour before my guests arrive so I don't know if I can do the pictures there. i was planning on going to the arboreteum too. But if you have time they I would totally just do it at the Vanderbilt.

I saw the grounds in August on both an overcast day and a very sunny day and the grounds looked great--a little muddy on one of the overcast day though, particularly down by the water. I too will have access to the grounds an hour before the wedding, so we'll see. I think right after the ceremony, we'll be taking as many pictures as we can prior to loosing the sunlight.
There are a couple of Vanderbilt brides who have posted their proofs in the Brides Review and by looking at them it will give you an idea of what the grounds will look like.

I got married there in August and we took all of our pictures on the grounds. There were a lot of nice picture areas: the courtyard, by the water, the lawn, so we didnt feel like we needed to go somewhere else.
It rained on and off through out the day, but it didn't get muddy. We were able to leave the reception for about 15 minutes while the sun came out and got alot of outdoor pics.
i'm a dowling alumni and the grounds are beautiful!!! there were times walking to class over the summer that i thought how cool it was that this was my school b/c it was beautiful! the sun over the river is amazing. the bayard cutting arboretum is 5 minutes away, if that, and offers a ton of beautiful shots!!! you are getting married in an awesome spot on the island!

From what I saw of it last May it really beautiful...but I can not say that I looked that far down the grounds to see if it was muddy.
I am hoping to book the day before you....4th :) How has your experience been so far?

We did all our photography at Vanderbilt. It poured on my wedding day in June, but there were still lots of beautiful places to take pictures indoors or in the covered areas.
