Hello ladies!! I'm new to the board, and already very overwhelmed and excited about all the advice and info. to read about. We haven't decided on a place yet, but we do know we want to bring in our own caterer because my Fiancé is a chef and very particular. Very few venues allow you to bring in an outside caterer. Does anyone know of any?? Since we're having the wedding in Oct., we wanted the reception indoors, but then we discovered the Vanderbilt (the one in Centerport with the planetarium and mansion). My GOD, it’s gorgeous!!!!!! They have a huge tent set up and the whole thing, the ambiance, it’s really very beautiful. So, we do love it but we haven't heard anything about it. There are a few concerns, like the location of the bathrooms, and the stairs, and of course the weather, but I was told the tents could be heated. So, if anyone can help me out, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank so much, Meg

Re: Vanderbilt Mansion in Centerport
first of all, congrats on your recent engagement and welcome to the boards!!!
I cannot offer direct advice regarding the Vanderbilt in Centerport per se, but we did take our wedding pictures there (in between our church ceremony in Greenlawn and reception at the Thatched Cottage in Centerport ).
It is exceptionally beautiful at the Vanderbilt and money well spent! The museum/mansion has so many lovely places to take pics there, and having a ceremony/reception there would be amazing. When we went to look there for our photo site, we saw a wedding taking place in the tents and I thought it made for a lovely place for a ceremony and reception!
I can give you the contact I dealt with there for pictures, I believe she is the same person to contact for ceremonies. Her name is Carol and she can be reached directly at: (631) 854-5568
Also here is a link to more detailed information about site fees, etc:
