I just got engaged and I would love to be a 2007 bride but I'm sure if it will work out - I want to set me date for this summer but I will have to see if we will be able to find a reeption site we like on kind of short notice. I am really interested in the Vanderbilt Mansion in Oakdale but have heard conflicting things about the pricing - if anyone has booked there or looked at it and would care to share their pricing I would appreciate it! Thanks!

I went to check out vanderbilt [on dowling college right?] and I THINK they quoted me around $125, but i cant remember if it was for a Friday or Sat.
I also THINK their catering is done by lovin oven??? If so, I went to 21 main last night for dinner, which is also catered by lovin oven, and the food was GREAT!

The caterer for the VM in Oakdale is Lovin' Oven. The caterer for the VM in Centerport is Lessing's. Lovin' Oven owns Flowerfield, Land's End and Tribeca Rooftop- their food and quality of service is supposed to be FABULOUS. I have had great experiences before at LE and FF but have never actually been to VM in Oakdale for an affair- But I would imagine it being no different since it is the same company 'running the show'.

Have you been to 21 Main for dinner? We went twice in the past 2 weeks and it was great!!! Great service and great food! the seabass was AMAAAAAZINGGGGGG! and they had a sweet potato soup that was outta this worllllld!!!

Hmm I went to look at Flowerfield this past weekend and I could have sworn that the woman we met with said that Lovin Oven would no longer be doing the catering at Vanderbilt in Oakdale. Regardless its still an amazing venue! Best of luck!

you know what? i have not been there and i failed to mention that that's one of their locations too- and west lake-- duh!! lol but i should go- sounds great!!

I just remembered--she said that they sold their lease. Not sure when the transition actually occurs though. I had been to a wedding there last year and the food was outstanding!

I happened to be looking at the Lessings website and the Vanderbilt Mansion at Dowling is listed as one of their venues...I used to work at W. Sayville Country Club (also Lessings) and I can at least say they were a good company to work for and the food was good too. bacon-wrapped scallops....yummmmmmm

I am a Vanderbilt Bride. It is true that Lessings bought out Lovin Ovens contract. For those of us who booked prior to the switch we are still under lovin oven anyone who books now is lessings. They are sharing the site for the year and then it will be Lessings only in 08'. Good luck!
