Veil Dilemna

Veil Dilemna

I am getting married in June and have not purchased a veil yet. I was told by quite a few brides not to buy the veil until you have your dress swatch because whites are hard to match and if the color is off it will look VERY tacky. Kleinfeld's (where I purchased my gown) refuses to get me a swatch until 8 to 10 weeks before the wedding when my dress comes in, saying that each dye lot is different. I am NOT waiting until then to get a veil. Now they tell me that I should just go with a 'diamond white' colored veil and that it'll be fine. What do you guys think? Has anyone purchased their veil without matching it to their dress?

i purchased my veil from Denise Leli, and she told me to bring in a swatch so she can match it so i called the store were i got my wedding dress from and they said the dress will be in, in May and they would give me a swatch then. I dont know why they cant give it to you before ?

I don't get it either. I asked them if there was any way they can get the dress in sooner since I ordered it back in June and they keep telling me that it is scheduled to come in 8 to 10 weeks before the wedding and that it is what it is. My latest response (I called them this morning) was 'no big deal, just get it in 'diamond white' and it'll be fine'.

To be honest....I never even thought of it. Maybe I should have! I ordered my dress and veil together- my dress is antique white and they ordered my veil(s) in ivory. They said that would be more than close enough. Should I be worried?

Do you think perhaps its b/c you were so rude to the lady on the phone that she doesn't want to help you....LOL....JK
I actually think many people just order the veil without having a swatch, but I don't know b/c I haven't gotten that far yet!

its the same thing we always say about BM dresses, you have to order them all at the same time so that the color comes out the exact same. The dye lot can differ each time, maybe a little lighter or darker so thats why.

i actually purchased my veil which is white (while trying on my sample dress which was off white at the time) my dress finally came in and it matches perfect with the white on white- to be honest with you when i tried them on in the store you really couldnt tell the difference my sister had an off white dress and her veil came in white on error (long story) anyway the contrast actually looked nice and it didnt stand out - i think you should start looking around in different places if you want to

If you ordered it together then I'm sure you'll be fine. I'm sure whoever ordered it knew what they were doing. My issue is I don't necessarily want to buy my veil at Kleinfeld's and not all stores have my dress so I can't go in a match it up to a sample of my dress to see how it looks.

most people just go and buy an ivory veil for example if their dress is ivory. You can do that i guess. The veil i love is at kleinfelds but havent bought it yet, i tried it on with my dress. Gotta figure out what im going to do

Em, I think if you go with Diamond White you should be fine! What kind of veil are you looking for?]

You know me Lisa always the nasty one. Maybe I'm worrying for nothing, it's just that so many people stressed that to me. I know two girls that had to go running around 1 month before their wedding to buy a new veil cause the colors were off. I'll kill myself if I have to do that 1 month before!

Oh god, really? I didn't even think of this. Umm...well I guess then you best bet is going to just have to maybe buy the veil and hold it up agains the sample. That is ridiculous that they won't get you a swatch! I wonder if it matters with pure white dresses like mine....ughhh serioulsy I just can't wait for the wedding already!

Something fairly plain, maybe with some sort of trimming, chapel length. I looked when I was buying my dress but I didn't like anything the girl brought in.

Thats nice, I want something similar. I don't even know what lenght to get? My train is semi-catherdral. SO then i get catherdal? or do they make semi-cathedral veils?
How long is your train?

My dress is semi-cathedral (I think). I'm not sure if veils come in semi-cathedral length, unless you get it custom made maybe? I guess it's really up to you and your taste preference. I'm thinking with a semi-cathedral dress though, a cathedral length veil would be perfect so that it extends out past your dress.

BTW, I just found this helpful tips page regarding veils:

http://www.bridalfashionmall.com/choose_veil.html

So I guess the girl I just spoke to was right, I should just get a diamond white veil.

Thanks, also, you can try a search on here for anyone with your dress and find out what they did!

I don't know if this was suggested already, but have you considered contacting the manufacturer of the dress for a swatch?

I haven't thought of that actually. Maybe I should give them a try, thanks!

Re: Veil Dilemna

It's possible they dont give you a swatch until last minute because they want you to get your veil there.

Don't stress! I got my veil from Barrons (where they custom make it to whatever color, trim, length, style you want) and was told 1 month turnaround. We told them we wont need it for 2 months, but that's still pretty quick and would give you time if you decided to wait.

My dress shop gave me a swatch from a dress they were altering at the time (my designer, same color fabric) and I brought that in and we matched it to the closest color (they have about 15 colors to choose from). My dress is 'natural' (raw silk) which is similar to a diamond white, and we ended up going with 'diamond white' which is what I would have guessed.

Can you go back and ask for a swatch of someone else's dress that they are altering that's the same color/designer, even though it's not your dress? it's unlikely that your dress will vary that much.

I'd suggest going to Barrons since their veils are SO reasonably priced. Absolute worst case, if you need to get a new veil remade when your dress comes in (which is very unlikely) you should have enough time to get veil 2 from Barrons, again for a really reasonable price. You can then sell veil 1 on ebay.

Hope this helps
