Okay here's the story short & sweet. I have cathedral veil that is beautiful and that is only one I purchased. My MOM is TRYING to insist that on MY WEDDING DAY i have to wear the veil for the first dance. My hair is down , I have beautiful swarovski combs! And plain n simple I don't want to have this heavy cathedral veil during my first dance.... I tried to compromise and said I will wear it when I come in and just pull it off for the dance....she wants me to hold it on my arm....???? *** is that all about, Point blank it's my day , my pictures and my dance. I think I should be happy with how it looks .
What do you guys think , I want opinions???

Re: Veil Help???
You seem to really not like the idea of having it on for the first dance, so I say leave it off. It's your day, and these are your pictures your going to be looking at for the rest of your life!! Either way your Mom will be happy that day, and by the time your dancing your first dance she won't even remember she asked you to keep it on. she'll just be thinking how beautiful you look, and probably crying her eyes out at that point!!

Re: Veil Help???
I had a detachable cathedral layer and let me just tell you, I couldn't wait to take it off. It was beautiful but after wearing it through pictures and whatnot...I was more than happy to let it go. It gets in the way of everything! I did have a blusher layer to go with it though. Maybe your mom doesn't like the idea of you being veil-less? Any chance you'd want to make the cathedral detachable from the blusher? Or is it too late...
or am I a dummy and you already have a blusher?
My cathedral layer came off right before I got on the boat at CLM- so I took almost all formal pics with it on. It was definitely off for the entrance/first dance!

Re: Veil Help???
I voted to take it off for the first dance, because honestly, I am all about doing as I damn well please. But if your Mom is adamant and you really care about how she feels about it- I would walk in with it and then take it off. I would not wear it during the dance. HTH

Re: Veil Help???
noooooooooooooo cathedral veils are mostly for the ceremony....They're BIG ... they're BEAUTIFUL and elegant but an OBSTACLE...
I have a smaller veil I will wear after the church and for the duration of the reception (I can't recall what the name is... Its my something 'borrowed' my sister...)
Can you compromise on that? Or is another veil totally out of the question.
if so, I say you pull the 'ITS MY WEDDING' card on momma.
You're allowed a few...

OK I voted for entrance but then thought about it, what if taking it off is akward and your doing it front of all of these people. I have also been to a wedding wher the bride bustled her cathedral veil. Just want to make sure you have all the options. GL

Same here! I think you def. don't want to have to do anything w/it in front of everyone, esp. b/c I think just about everyone will be looking at you at that moment. My mom hasn't been very opinionated about anything for my wedding, but when I said to her 'I wonder when I should take off my veil?' She said 'After the first dance!', like it was THE thing to do. I'm fine w/it b/c mine isn't so long. BUT, if you're this annoyed about it now, wait until you're in front of everyone fighting w/your veil through your first dance. Do you really want to look p***ed off in those photos? I say if you can't bustle it, then take it off--you have to be happy and comfortable!

Re: Veil Help???
You can't dance in a cathedral veil unless you're just swaying back and forth. You'd end up wrapped up in it. And holding in on your arm will just put it in the way of getting good pictures.

Re: Veil Help???
I had the exact same situation. My Mom wanted me to wrap it around my arm and dance with it. I refused, it looked so dumb wrapped around my arm and I didn't want all the pictures of our first dance to have this big veil wrapped around my arm. I wore it just for pictures at the RH and then took it off. I think wearing it for the entrance is fair though. To be honest, it was gorgeous, but sooo annoying and I wanted it off ASAP.

Re: Veil Help???
Draping a veil over your arm is going to be uncomfortable for you to dance with never mind looking a little weird!! lol Your compromise to wear it for the enterance and then take it off for your first dance seems fair enough.

Definitely do what you are more comfortable with. Honestly, I held my cathedral length veil on my arm, just outside the church for the receiving line & it was driving me nuts!
