Velvet

So I went to Velvet last night and we liked their work... The only thing that was concerning was that all the albums are blurry. HE said it was because those are old albums and that the pictures were shot in film, scanned and then printed in the digital albums. He explained that he transfered over to all digital equipment this year and that the blurriness will be eliminated. He also said no one ever noticed that, but my FH is VERY much into photos so he is able to pick up on minor things like that. He said no other client noticed that blurriness, but thats why he transfered over to digital prints. He assured us that since he now has digital equipment the albums will be great, however he does not have any albums to show that were shot in digital format.

We love his shots (very creative), and he is very personable. He spent a while speaking about all this technical stuff with FH so I know that he knows what he is doing. The only thing that we are hesitant about is signing a contract since we have not seen an updated album. I dont know if i should chance it, even though he assured us that this have gotten a lot better since he changed equipment.

What are your thoughts? Would you go with Velvet without seeing an updated album. We love his shots, his personality, and his price (even though Im trying to figure out why he quotes us 1k less than everyone else.... cheap price = cheap work??????)

I've been doing research on LIweddings, and I havent seen any negative reviews. So far we love his work the best, except for the blurriness..

I would appreciate any feedback.. THANKS :)

Velvet is great!

My sister used them 2 summers ago for her wedding and her album wasn't blurry at all- she has it posted in her profile on here- her name is jeanla4c. I also have some epics in my profile as well that Bob took about a year ago.

His prices are great because he works with you and your budget. By no means is it cheap work. I found his prices rather comparable to everyone else.

Re: Velvet

his prices were slightly higher than the other company we looked into, but we found the quality of his work amazing, which is why we booked with him. We actually even talked to him about using real film (my family works for kodak) the day of. Our e-pics were done digitally and great. Hope everything works out for you and you make the best choice for you and your FH.

We loved bob. I didn't think his albums were blurry at all. He just took our e-pics also. SO you can see them in my album. But he does great work!!! and he is a great person to work with. He kept us laughing the whole time.

Re: Velvet

I too noticed the blurriness of the albums and that immediately turned me off. I especially noticed it with the pictures spread across 2 pages. I ended up going with a different vendor because of it. Then again, I did not have the guts (not the best with confrontation) to ask about it.

It does sound like he really took the time to explain it to you...but that is still a tough decision. I am surprised that he cannot come up with one new digital album to show you, maybe you could press him on this issue again. Since he says he had made the switch to digital and the blurriness was taken care of, you would think he would showcase his best work....or show 'how far the technology has come.'

There are alot of really happy Velvet brides on this site, maybe one will pop up with a great album layout to show you. Good luck with your decision...keep us posted.

Tricia's sister here....See my album-not sure how much you can tell though from it this size. I was very satisfied.....the only blurriness I noticed in the actual album was when a picture was enlarged AND had a certain effect on it (only about one picture out of 90 in my album). My take on it is if you like their work to go for it since the new albums will be even better!! You also have the option of not having a digital album. Good Luck!

I loved his work! I am surprised he doesn't display some of his more modern work. Bob is very tallented, but not the best sales person.

Velvet does nice work but I also noticed that when I went there to check them out. I'm VERY picky about my pictures!!!

I am really picky about that too. I am an Image Specialist for a magazine in the city and edit and retouch high res images all day. I also have a degree in Professional photography from RIT. I would go with your gut.

I liked him too, but it comes down to the album. Photographers always show their best work, you have to be 100% sure. By the way, there is no excuse for blurry images. High end film scanners are capable of scanning images in very high quality and any slight blurriness can be fixed in Photoshop.

You could always set up an Engagement session and pending on how that goes, then book him.

There are a lot of amazing digital photographers out there too. Here is a site:

Hope that helps! Good luck!
