Hey I'm new to the LIWeddings chat thing. I just booked my venue. I'm getting married 9/17/11. How many months in advace do you book things like florists, bands (or DJ's), photographers etc... I was going to wait until summer. I don't want to be too early and be the crazy bride, but I also don't want to miss out on the vendors that I want. Because I booke dthe venue their 'preferred vendors' have started to call, I'm hesitant on making appointments. Any advice?

i also feel that booking early is good... you lock in prices and you more time to pay... all of the vendors you mentioned are major vendors so booking them as far in advance as you can is a good idea...

All I can say is use the length of your engagement to your advantage. Make appointments with EVERYONE. Do your research and make sure you're getting the most bang for your buck. House vendors are a good place to start, but sometimes I find them to be a bit more pricey. Start with whatever vendor is most important to you and go from there.
And of course... congrats & welcome!

Book some things as early as you can - you can usually secure this year's rates if you do that. Things to wait on in my opin, flowers, dress, they will change as you get closer. I'd leave the dress to as long as you can. Definitely no more than a year before. Your tastes will change, you'll get more ideas as you plan...good luck!

While booking early is great, take your time and do your research. You don't have to book immediately, but give yourself options. I don't think it can ever be too early but don't rush your decisions.

I would say it is never too early to start looking and booking! You will be sure to get all of your desired vendors without them being booked up already. I had no conflicts with any of my vendors being booked - I was engaged for 2.5 yrs and booked thinkings within the first 6months-yr depending on the vendor...nowadays so many brides are booking vendors well in advance so availability can be limited if you wait! For things like florists, you may be concerned if you are not quite sure what you want but you can book and then you don't pick what you want until your wedding is closer so I wouldn't be concerned about that..hth
