In Feb, I found my dress!! How exciting, right? Since I'm not getting married until Aug, 2009, they told me at Lillettes that I didn't need to order it right away and I should just leave $500 to hold the order and they would call in Aug, or Sept to measure me and I would put the remaining deposit of $3500 down...no problem.
Lillettes called me yesterday and said my dress was being discontinued and I needed to come in no later than Monday afternoon to order my dress and I needed the $3500 cash or check.
I've been in NH all weekend so I don't have time to go get measured, not to mention I'm going to Mexico for my bro's wedding and the $3500 cash would really hurt me on such short notice. So I'm devastated that I can't get the dress, but I also lose the $500!!!!!!
Is it just me, or is pretty rotten to give me such short notice to get measured and pay for my dress...in cash!!!!!
*****Update Ladies, thanks for all your support...I think I needed validation for feeling royally screwed!! My mom has offered just to give me the cash and I'm going to leave work early to make it to the store before they close. I feel badly my mom's giving me the $$ since I told her I would pay for my dress; but she's wonderful and since she loved the dress she just wanted me to have it.
You girls were all soooo supportive through my minor crisis, I can’t thank you enough...and I really hope the service improves at Lillettes!!!

Re: Vendor Irritation!!
They told me that they just found out themselves...I think I'm going to call the dress maker to find out when bridal salons find out about dresses being discontinued.

Re: Vendor Irritation!!
oh wow that is not right to just call you up and say you need to do it ASAP. Especially since the balance would be $3500, they have to expect that not everybody can just come up with $3500 on short notice, especially those who are planning a wedding . The best solution i can think of, is to call them and say you cant do any of this now and see if you can use the $500 towards another dress, most should do this and if i remember correctly in my dress contract you should be able to. Good luck and so sorry this happened, it really is not right. Or talk to them about not paying balance until you do your first fitting, so what if the dress is being discontinued, the designer is still around lol they would still get their money and just like ANY other dress you wouldn't pay the balance until the first fitting, not your problem that its being discontinued. I would call and ask to speak to a manager, explain to her your situation and see what they can do for you.
Good luck

I can use the money towards another dress, but since they were sooooo rude to me, I don't really want to work with them...but if I just ate the $$, who would I be hurting, myself....so I'm thinking of just going in every weekend and trying on every dress in the store until I get my $500 worth of service

i know that does s*ck, you dont want to lose the money but at the same time you dont want to deal with these people anymore. Maybe buy something else right now, such as accessories worth $500, see if they would do that. If they have veil, headpiece, shoes there see if you can use $500 towards that and this way you get these things ASAP and then thats it you dont have to deal with them and you can get your dress elsewhere

Re: Vendor Irritation!!
I ordered my dress from the same place and found that customer service really varies based on who you talk to. Not sure who your bridal consultant is but I would call back and ask for her and explain:
1) you are interested in the dress but were away for the weekend and couldnt come in on such short notice
2) you are interested in the dress but cant pull together $3500 on such short notice, and ask if you can have a little more time
3) tell them you are upset with how you were treated, and are seriously considering walking away and going to a different shop (they dont want to lose your business)
I've had a few experiences when one person told me no or gave me trouble and then I called back and talked to someone else who 'found a way' to give me what I asked for. Hopefully you can work things out in a way where you will be happy. I would definitely try to contest this.

That is really messed up! That's way too little notice to give a person. I would fight to get your deposit back

I cannot believe that, that is so wrong. I agree you need to fight this . . . . I'm not sure I'd put the deposit down with them again. Does your receipt dictate the terms of the payment?

Re: Vendor Irritation!!
I agree with bluegreen... call back. I felt the customer service with them was fantastic. And my family was being so overwhelming and loud and crazy and she was still lovely.
Call back and be calm. Good luck.

Re: Vendor Irritation!!
why cant they just order the dress and you pay for it in full after they get it in and do the alterations? im sorry that they discontinued it - thats terrible - but they should be a little flexible considering they are doing it on such short notice - i heard alot of places have like 30 day period to order dresses

Re: Vendor Irritation!!
Thats horrible, I think u should argue w/them on this one. If u can't put the remaining balance @ such last minute then u should be able to get your $500 back. Good Luck

Re: Vendor Irritation!!
That's really ridiculous of them to do that on such short notice. I would fight it. Would they use the $500 deposit on another dress if you found one? Maybe you can call and speak to a manager or owner?
