vendor payment question

vendor payment question

another question... with photographers, would you be bothered by one who expects all payment on/by the wedding day? Do most do this, or do they often have you hold onto the final payment until you get your albums?

I met with a photographer today that I love but his two biggest drawbacks are that he asks for all money by the day of the wedding, and he hasn't worked at my hall before. Would either of these be deal breakers for you.

He seems to have a great reputation, so I'm not too worried... but I don't know if I should be more worried than I am.

thanks!

I would consider it a deal breaker if he wants all the money up front. You have no leverage if you don't get the pics. You are paying without receiving anything. I saw a photographer who said that and i said if that is the way it is I won't even consider doing business with you. He changed his mind. I ended up not going with him though.

That doesn't seem right, we have to pay 1/2 by the day of the wedding & then the remainder after we get proofs, etc.

I think mine is thirds.....1/3 deposit, 1/3 day of, 1/3 upon proofs since you don't have to get an album through them. I don't like that yours is saying pay in full with out getting anything in return?!?!?!

I definitly would not feel comfortable paying the whole balance before or on the wedding day.
With our photographer we had to pay 30% at booking then 30% the day of and then the remaining balance when we pick up the pictures.

I would say that would not be a good deal to go with.

I paid the balance at the wedding. I had confidence in the photographer.

I had absolutely no problem with it..

We ordered extra photos and had to pay for them at the time we ordered them.

ETA: Just remembered that I paid the photographer the last 3rd after the albums. Sorry-it's been a while. DH actually reminded me.

Yeah I would not be ok with paying it all before the wedding. I think its best to wait to make the final payemnt after the wedding, and you can see your pics.

I am paying in full by the wedding day.

I would have a problem with this too, it doesn't seem right. I can kind of see with other vendors because you see the final work on the wedding day (ie florist, etc). But what if he never comes up with the final product or you don't like it. I don't know.

We passed on a few photographers because they wanted all the money beforehand. I didnt feel comfortable with this. I dont think its as big a deal that they have never been to your hall before. At least they will take pics from a fresh perspective and not give you 'standard' shots.

We pay the balance when we pick up our proofs. I wouldn't want to pay everything up front.

I agree - same set up as above with my photographer

Re: vendor payment question

Paying the entire cost before delivery of the product would be a deal breaker for me with a photographer. Not being familiar with the location would not be.
