Re: Vendor question
Do you have your heart set on working with this vendor?
I'd be very wary of going forward with a vendor that does business that way. If it's possible, I'd strongly consider telling the vendor that, in light of this 'error' and his/her handling of the situation, you'll allow them to cancel the contract, subject to a full refund of your deposit, and go with another vendor.
The situation sounds a little fishy to me.
Good luck!

Re: Vendor question
You better not pay him. A contract is a contrat. If he argues with you demand your money back and find another vendor. I make people sign contracts all the time, if I messed something up, that's my fault and I have to eat it, not my customer.

Re: Vendor question
I had this happen with the church, they raised the 'donation' about four months before the wedding. But since it was the church I really couldn't say anything.
Either way I would not pay a penny more then what is listed in your contract.

Absolutely not. If you both signed to a contract price, they can't change it, and certainly not for MORE money. They are obligated to honor that contract.
my thoughts exactly. That is the purpose of a contract!

Re: Vendor question
No they are not able to make you pay for their mistake. Make sure your FH is firm with them when he calls them back...
Out of curiosity is there any clause in the contract that allows them to back out with no repercussions to them? For example, some contracts state if you cancelled you still owe them money; however, if they are unable to fulfill their obligations you will be returned your money? You want to be sure they don't back out the day before your wedding because it won't cost them anything.

A contract is a contract..but I'd be careful because you don't want there to be bad blood

Re: Vendor question
Definitely do not give him an extra $900. A contract is a contract and since he or she is a vendor whom I'm assuming regularly does business of this kind, he should be very familiar with pricing.
As a matter of fact, I would demand that my deposit be returned immediately. I would be skeptical of continuing to work with this vendor. What kind of service is he or she providing? My fear is that even if the vendor honors the contract for the current price, the vendor may not perform services appropriately on the day of your wedding.

Re: Vendor question
Thank you everyone for your help
FH called today after work and the mistake was made by the vendor in what he charged us
After discussing the whole thing the vendor is not going to charge us the extra money since FH said we could not afford to pay anymore money since we booked due to the price
So we still have the vendor and we still have the agreed upon price
Thanks again all!!!!!!!!

Re: Vendor question
Absolutely not!!!! You signed a contract to the price you agreed on. they cany just say they made a mistake and go back on their contract and add more money. You wouldnt be able to sign a contract and then say 'oh wait thats more then what I want to pay and I want the contract reduced' So why do they get to go back on their word. I would argue that
