Vendor Reviews!

Hi Everyone,

I just got married last week, and had a wonderful wedding! This is actually my first time here, but I had a really good experience with my vendors and I just want to share that with everyone. So, here it goes:

Ceremony/Reception: The Vanderbilt Mansion at Dowling - Beautiful location! Mansion on the river. Kinda like Sound of Music. Very very pretty. You can't beat this place on elegance and style. The catering is plentiful and amazing. Service is impeccable. From wedding coordinator to maitre'd to bridal attendant. Very very attentive. Prices are very reasonable as well provided you do it during the day and not on Saturdays. This was hands down the best value and the best option for a small to medium sized, tasteful wedding.

Makeup/Hair: Detailed Elegance (www.detailedelegance.com) - Corina An is a fabulous makeup artist. She really did wonders for me and my girls. No need for air-brushing. Flawless makeup, beautiful colors, and most importantly, makeup that suits your look. Erica was the hair stylist, and she did a beautiful half-updo for me with curls cascading down my back. Very very happy with the results from this team.

Limo: NY Style Limo - Reasonably priced and allowed me to have no frills straitforward service. On time, and even waited for me for more than half an hour. Very satisfactory.

Photographer: Maggie Soladay - (www.maggiephoto.com) Fun and enthusiastic. Maggie put everyone at ease! Haven't seen the photos yet, but I'm sure they'll be fab.

DJ - In the Mix DJ (www.inthemixdj.com) - Very professional and respectful. Didn't try to push unnecessary extras on us. Let us have a one-man DJ rather than an annoying Emcee. Good job on mixing up the music and playing songs the crowd could get into. Excellent service. Ask for Donnie.

Dress - Selia Yang (www.seliayang.com) - Gorgeous gown made of organza. It had a very dreamy quality in the photos. Very romantic. The lightness and fragility to the dress did, however, lend itself to a few rips.


Florist - Terranova - Flowers were ok. They did forget my toss bouquet. The flowers were pretty enough for my purposes, but someone pickier may want to go with a fancier florist. They were, however, very very inexpensive. I was pleased with the value.

Sorry to just meet you after the fact -- you have some great advice. COngratulations on what sounded like an amazing event!

Congratulations to another Vanderbilt Bride! Looking forward to seeing your pictures. I considered a Selia Yang dress. They are beautiful dresses and can't wait to see what she designed for you.

what did you choose for your menu? any food reviews?

The food was truly wonderful. I never had wedding food that good, especially the cocktail hour. Just make sure you eat everything at the cocktail hour. The lamb chops went very fast! As for the main course, the filet mignon was by far the best choice. I also had the chilean sea bass which was also nice. My final choice was the duck, which I don't think is offered on the new menu, but that was just ok anyway. For the first course, I went with the combo of Napoleon Chicken or something like that. Very good.

I really liked pink so I had a pink bouquet/white bouquet. My bridesmaids had mint green dresses, so I gave them pink/peach bouquets which were very nice. For the centerpieces, I chose bright yellow roses, and that totally brightened up the room. I'll have to post some pictures to show you.

no, not at all. i thought the vendor reviews sounded balanced and fair. i think it's nice of someone to take the time to offer reviews and recommendations even if they're not the type to post regularly.

That's ok! I can understand that. I typically don't post, and usually keep to myself. I felt a bit guilty about the fact that I took a lot of advice off these boards and never contributed. I also feel a certain duty to the vendors that did a great job for me to spread the good word about them. So, that's really why I suddenly decided to post all the vendor reviews. Plus it helps relieve some of my post wedding doldrums. It all went by too quickly! Discussing it on the boards allows me to relive it a little.

I checked out your pictures earlier. They were gorgeous! My wedding day was really windy. My hair was kind of all over the place. Not sure how the outdoor photos turned out. Btw, I love the red shoes with the dress. I wore pink shoes myself, and everyone was like 'what?' So, it's nice to see other brides stepping out of tradition as well. Oh, and I love the way your dress bustles. I'm going to have to find better pictures of my dress to put up. The ones I have now don't do it justice.
