Vendor tip list

You know, don't mind my little rant here, but having to tip vendors drives me CRAZY. I get tipping wait staff, and delivery people. But why do I have to tip my photographer?? Or DJ? This is their career, they make a salary. My DJ is the owner, do I really need to tip him?? No one would ever dream of tipping me for teaching their children! And I wouldn't expect them to!

Ugh!!! I know this isn't what you asked lol. But it really gets me going!

I definitely understand where Kroedel87 is coming from. Tipping everyone is expensive and do I really want to be opening up envelopes at the reception just so I can tip everyone else? Of course I am going to but it's just crazy. I feel like I am already paying so much.

This has bothered me too! I'm probably not going to tip my photographer because he is the sole owner of his company, and he does everything (with his wife, but still, no team) so all the money goes to him anyway. I HATE going through contracts and reading the *20% tip is appreciated always!* lines in everything ugh!

I feel ya on this! I know that my photographer and dj aren't getting the thousands of dollars I'm paying put right in their pockets, but I know they're making good money or else it wouldn't be such a popular business to get into. I used to wait tables and when your paycheck for a 40 hour work week is $50 then getting tipped is a big deal, I'm sure these people are making much more then that!

Sorry for continuing that rant.

I do not believe you are obligated to tip someone if they are the owner of the company .... I've read that in various articles and websites.

I feel the same way, this drives me INSANE!!!! I completely understand tipping certain people because I know that they will totally be working for their money, but everything in this industry is already jacked up in price so much. I wish people would just tell me the price including tip so I didn't have to worry about it.

Tips should be EXCEPTIONAL service..
IE.. your photographer stays late and doesnt charge
your MC or DJ nails every song and you thank god you choose them
Your flower delivery person showed up EARLY with Extra stuff....

Vendors come to expect tips and I feel that they sometimes arent encouraged to go the extra mile because they know a tip is coming anyway

I totally agree. But I'd feel super cheap if I didn't tip.

And I write tons of recommendation letters for my students and hardly ever even get a thank you.
