Vendors (Hair/Make-up/etc) Posting Pictures of You Without Permission, Second Guessing Vendor :(
Hi all,Having had second thoughts about the woman I booked for make-up, I found her FB page just now and liked it. After doing so, I realized that one of her recent pictures was a before and after of me. I went to her that morning with my hair a mess, very run down, looking worse than usual...(I had huge bags under my eyes from scrubbing away at stubborn waterproof mascara, allergies, etc.) and she took my before picture in very shadowy, bad light. I'm pretty sure it's actually the worst picture I've ever seen of myself.
I understand she'd want to post her work, but she didn't tell me she was going to do this. A few of my friends had already 'liked' the photo on Facebook, much to my chagrin. If she had just asked me and showed me the pictures, I could have told her how I felt (which would be that I wouldn't mind her posting the after shots of her work but that I'd prefer the first picture not go on Facebook).
I tried calling her a few times recently to talk about timing the day of. She sent me a text late one night giving some quick info but saying that it was late and we'd speak soon. She didn't call back. (This was a week ago.) I tried calling before and didn't get her, so I sent a text asking when would be a good time to speak and asking if she could remove the picture from Facebook.
The reason I was having second thoughts to begin with was that as I was booking her, she told me I would have to make sure to get a refining mask and scrub daily, etc. because I have 'big pores' and that the make-up might not be able to mask them? (something to that effect). I do have an area of blackheads and slightly bigger pores around my nose, but everyone I have ever gotten makeup done from before has told me that I have great skin (including the trial I had right before her, who I regret not going with instead) . I chose this woman because I loved the colors she used on me and a lot of people recommended her, but realistically, I could have asked the first girl to modify the colors she used/etc.
I am feeling so disheartened. In my contract, the cancellation policy states 'Cancellation of any part of this contract must be made in writing 135 days prior to reserved date or you will be responsible for the full amount of services agreed upon in this contract' (The 135 days have passed...they might have even passed already when I did the trial.) I left her a $150 deposit, and she wrote down the prices for bridal party and a few extra services, though I told her I wasn't sure who would or wouldn't want makeup from my bridal party.
Anyone ever experience anything similar?

Ugh that really sucks. I'm sorry you're going through this. In my contract for hair, I had to sign a waiver basically indicating that I was okay with photos being posted on social media and her website. But it's explicitly states that the bride reserves the right to select the pictures. She cannot legally post photos of you without your permission. I'd be pissed. When you finally do get in touch with her, I'd lay it all out on line the line for her. Let her know you're pissed about the illegally posted photo, questioning your contract, and are pissed she's so terrible with communication. Let her know you're having serious doubts and are looking into other artists (even if you're not). Be blunt and don't take any sh!t. If she says fine and walks away, you're better off anyway! And if she gets it together, then that's great and hopefully it'll be smooth sailing from here :)Hope this helps :)

Thank you!! <3 my friend whose husband is a lawyer told me to tell her that since posting photos of me on Facebook was not a part of the contract I signed, that she's made me uncomfortable working with her (true) and I'd like my $150 back

OMG what a nightmare. I'm so sorry you're going through all this. Hair and Make up vendors aren't supposed to make you feel bad about yourself. What kind of moron is this woman? When I hired hair and make up services both contracts were very specific about social media and photography. I agreed to it after speaking with them and having my trials not before. I agree with the other bride, lay it out to them. If you're not comfortable, you're not comfortable!!! That's a horrible feeling. Don't let this woman put you down. How the hell does she even have business? Telling brides make up can't hide their pores! Crazy nonsense. Never heard of such a thing. I get routine facials because my face is awful and my facial lady doesn't even tell me crap like that. She's honest but she isn't mean and ridiculous. She just tells me stuff I already know about my face but doesn't push on my buying anything. Why should you pay for something you don't want? I had a similar issue with the photographer I initially hired. I lost money but in the end I had to get rid of that company as soon as I could! I just had a feeling in my gut that I couldn't shake. Experience shows us to listen to that little voice/gut feeling. If you're not 100% with these people than you know its not for you. I was lucky enough to find hair and make up that I knew I could work with. My bridal party and I had a great time with them and we all agree we would love to work with them again. I hope it all works out for you and I hope you get vendors that will make this moment for you special and not stressed. Hair and Make up is supposed to be your 'your time' to relax and feel extra pretty.

I had to sign waivers as well to release my photos. If you signed a contract it may be in there under the fine print but if you don't feel comfortable than look elsewhere! Do you mind sharing what artist this is?

I checked my contract very closely. There was nothing about pictures. She ended up taking it down, although she was disappointed because it got more hits than the rest of her pictures. I am sticking with her, because I'm trying to avoid more aggravation, because several people I know recommended her, and because my fiancé likes her make up the best on me out of my trials ( though, oddly enough , he didn't Think it looked as good in the pictures ). he told me it wasn't a big deal, he told me it wasn't a big deal , it was just my make up, I was getting worked up over nothing . I know it's not a big deal. I just would prefer to work with someone who puts me at ease on my wedding day. My mother passed years ago , and I feel a bit like a bridezilla when I complain about things like this or get stressed about things like this ... And I'm not sure who to talk to will be understanding . Thank you girls for being there for me . If you ask for the artist name , I can FM you

I'm sure it was a misunderstanding. She probably worked with nonchalant brides who didn't check or didn't care but she should be careful and respectful of what she posts because rightfully so, many brides do care! Maybe its a lesson learned for her. It doesn't mean her work is bad, just that she needs to be mindful of how she promotes that work! These boards are great for venting..we all have a rant about one thing or another! Dont stress & good luck! But I am curious who the artist is if you could FM me?

You're not a brideZilla. You're entitled to have concerns when it comes to vendors and you have to feel comfortable with who you are working with. Good luck and I hope you don't have anymore problems.Welcome New Vendors
