We're plnning our honeymoon & we just have too many places on our agenda, so we have to cut out eiher venice or florence.
For those of you who have visited both cities, which one would you recommend we visit?

Florence, with out a doubt
Thanks, is there any particular reason? Some people say that Venice is amazing, while others say its not that great...
I'd really appreciate any advice you could give me.

Re: Venice or Florence?
Florence is the center of the Renaissance (Il Rinascimento) and so there is much more to see - museums, art, etc. Florence is much bigger of a city as compared to Venice.
Venice, while beautiful, is much more laid back and romantic (in my view). There are select sites to see - most of which are in the Piazza di San Marco - but otherwise, Venice is much more laid back and 'quiet'.
Some people like this about Venice...the canals and gondolas add to the romance...while others don't think there's enough in Venice for a stay longer than 1 night.
It really all depends on what you want to do during your honeymoon.
If you want to sightsee a lot, go to Florence...if you want romance and feeling laid back...go to Venice.

FLorence definitely! Too many darn pigeons in Venice! lol....Besides the piazza, there isn't much else besides the canals and the glass-blowing shops. Florence is just the best.. it was my favorite stop. Second was Capri.

I think Florence is a day trip (3 hrs or so by train) from Venice. They are both amazing cities. Wake up early and catch them both.
Pick up Rick Steves Italy - he explains cities as if you were there. I joke that he is my other boy friend. He has the best travel books in the biz, hands down.

LOOOVED Venice...its probably my favorite city on earth!
Both cities are wonderful but I think Venice is a lot more unusual in its layout, architecture, etc..
However, if you are an art lover, then pick Florence - there are more great works there.

Re: Venice or Florence?
I've been to both and I would also say Venice. My very first night in Italy was spent in Venice at St. Mark's Square and my favorite memory from my WHOLE 2 week plus trip was listening to live classical music orchestras in the square at night. I literally broke down crying; it was the most incredible experience.

Re: Venice or Florence?
Definitely Florence. For me Venice didn't live up to all of the hype. It's VERY expensive, even for Europe. We had a simple dinner for two (pasta and fish) and it ran over 100 Euros. About 150 dollars. I spent three days there and also found the Venetians to be rude, even those at the hotel and in shops that cater to tourists. Probably die to the fact that the region was independent until recently in world history... a bit of an independent streak. After the tour of the Duomo and ST Mark's I was done
Florence was home to the Renaissance and the Gold Market can't be beat. I wish I had more time in Florence. I found the people to be much nicer. there is so much more to do.
I also teach World History so if you are interested in the history in any place you are considering you can FM me.
