Is anyone else with me or am I all alone in this boat?
I really want to make a card box, make menus, get OOT baskets, aisle runner, pocketfolds and do other 'additives' but I can't knowing I will be stuck with these items and have no use for them when the wedding is over. Or that I spent so much money on it/them. I can see something sentimental like toasting flutes because you can always keep them in your china cabinet but the other stuff I wish I had a different outlook on.
And because of my thoughts on this, I feel like my wedding will be so plain.

you wont be stuck with many of those things actually. The menu's you can leave at the hall, dont take them home with you. Take 1 or 2 to keep for yourself but thats it. OOT baskets same thing its for the oot guests to keep so you wont be stuck with it.
Theres alot of things with the wedding that we'll have but wont use again...biggest one i would say is the wedding dress lol. Not like we can ever wear it again. Not going to wear the headpiece or any of that.
If you want to do these things then do it and you dont have to do all of them...maybe do menu's and oot baskets or something.
but if you feel they are unnecessary then dont worry about it and dont stress over it

Well things like menus and OOT bags you will never see again, they'll just disappear (the menus go to the RH and then probably just get thrown out except for 1 or 2 you can keep for your scrapbook) and OOT bags get taken and disappear....so those are really things that get enjoyed and then disposed of, and you can do both pretty cheap (or spend a lot of money, it depends what you do). Just a different perspective on a few things

Yeah.....you're right. I don't think it's a waste at all, believe me. I realize I won't be stuck with all of it. I think the frustration of not being savvy enough to do it myself, has me feeling this way. My experience with the invitations really put a bad taste in my mouth. So frustrating and annoying. The extra little things make everyones wedding so unique. I love it all. I just wish I can do it!!!

I feel the same..and FH thinks I'm crazy for even wanting to do them..so I decided not to menus (m hall provides them anyway), no aisle runner (my aisle is 125ft!!) I don't have any OOT except my cousins in the BP and their families, so I'm not doing those.
I'm doing programs..I think that's it though. There are still other personal touches I've added in other things so I think it will still be personalized!

I felt like that too at one point. But it is now after the wedding & to be honest I am using some of the stuff for decoration. The unity candles & guest book are in my china cabinet. My arias coins are sitting on my mantle, I plan on using my cardbox for decoration around the winter holidays because it looks like presents anyway. & all the little paper items my mom is taking & will make me a scrapbook .. eventually (I will have to see it to believe it.lol)

The one DIY i didn't do but wanted to was the aisle runner. & to be honest I am soo glad I didn't even bother. The aisle runner was trappled & by the end even had a tear in it. Unless you opt for a thicker one that is custom made by someone else, the thin ones just do not look so great after they are used.
So do not feel bad about not doing that

maybe you can just do a few things? i only did menus, table numbers, candy boxes and programs. i didn't bother with OOT baskets, an aisle runner and i ordered a very plain cardbox. that said, many people commented on how 'personal' the wedding was and how much they loved all the 'little things'.
the menus were not that hard to do, in fact i did them very last minute so maybe you could do those? i did not think i was crafty before i started doing wedding stuff and then found it wasn't all that hard (although i could've never done my own invites!)
i think if you want to have some of the stuff, go for it, but don't feel like you have to! if the food and music is good, that's what people remember anyway!

exactly! At one point I was soo depressed because I wanted to order one too, but I couldn't justify the price tag & in the end it didn't matter.
I found out that some of my guest noticed the little touches while others only noticed it after the fact when someone showed them. Can you believe my mom didn't notice that the puppies were in the background of the table numbers... guez mom..

well the cardbox cost me less to make than it did to buy. and it came out how i wanted it. I enjoy crafts so for me it was more about giving myself projects that were useful and would also help to keep me busy and keep my stress down.

The menus, programs and OOT stuff will not be left at the hall and with guests.
As for a card box, I didnt want a traditional one. I I am in the process of making a photo cube of pics from our e-shoot and some pics that we took over the years. This will be something that we can have in the future.

I agree with all of the girls. You can create inexpensive and tasteful menus. I plan on hanging my aisle runner on a quilt rack once the wedding is over and done with. It's being made with tablecloth material.

Re: Vent about the extra stuff
You do not have to get all that stuff, dont drive yourself crazy trying to make it all
no one will notice, I spent so much on my favors they were over 10 dollars each and most people forgot them and didnt even notice them
People are blind they seriosly dont notice anything
WHen i worked at Estee Lauder we used to have Free Gift with Purchase 2 times a year, We went all out, had signs up everything throughout hte store, all over, the visual merchandisers would spend days setting up all the signs and displays
Do you know people woudl come up to me and ask me when we were going to have the free gift THEY never ever saw any of the signs or displays or anything
