Was this the hardest part of planning for you? FI and I rarely fought before all this planning and it is getting REALLY bad because of the darn guest list! I just needed to ask so I dont feel like I am the only one.

Uh oh!! I'm not looking forward to this part. We made up a preliminary list so we could have an estimate when we're looking at places and it wasn't so bad. Hopefully it will stay that way!
ETA: Oh, look!! I'm not newbie anymore. Now I'm an enthusiast!! So exciting!

The guest list was the biggest fight and in the end I wound up being the jacka$$.
I was very strict with him and his family with the number of people they wanted to invite - I was insistant that we didn't have enough room and now we are looking like we won't hit minimum and I've already sent out the entire B list.
My fault - oh well. Just remember you get between 10-20% no's and it may make you feel better.
Big fight number two seems to be the seating charts. Brace yourself!!
It will all work out.

I can so relate. I just vented big time on hear about my list. I hate it and I feel like I am always the bad guy.

OMG! I don't know anyone who doesn't have SOME trouble about this. I actually had to ask one parent to trim the list - because we had 80 more people on the list than could fit in the ROOM. You are not alone.

Our guest list is actually pretty complete. i think the big pisser will be seating arrangements. I can already see people calling us and going 'well i dont wanna sit next to so and so!'. like its freaking kindergarden!

The guest list was, without question, the worst part of the planning - at least for us. Everyone's got an opinion, everyone thinks they're right, and no-one wants to give in. But hey - we got through it and so will you! Just try to remain calm and sensible and things will work themselves out. You've got a lot of time, so there's no need to try to get it all done quickly; you can give it some thought over a matter of weeks (or months!). The only way I can imagine a guest list being easy is if you really can invite absolutely everyone...you know, one of those 300-400 person weddings?
The seating plan was a bit of a hassle but nothing compared to the guest list!

My guest list keeps getting bigger. Some people I'm not that close to, but I feel bad not inviting them. I just can't stop myself.

i agree - last weekend i asked FMIL to cut her list because FILs are inviting a lot more pople than my parents and I want the sides to be somewhat balanced - she ADDED people instead

I agree - this is the worst part! FH's family is bigger than mine, but my FMIL and FFIL are still inviting a lot of family friends - and then I hear it from my mother since she and my father are paying for almost the entire wedding - they feel they should be able to have more guests.
I think we worked it out so that my parents will pay for a set amount of guests on FH's side, and that his mother and father will pay for the rest...
I feel I really need to go to vegas instead...

We've basically put our guest list together already. We know we will add to it, but it won't be by much. Since we are paying for our wedding, we aren't letting anyone add to the list. Otherwise they have to pay for the additions! I'm broke as it is, don't plan on the poor house as a newly wed for people I barely know.

Oh guest lists were so FUN! Oh what a JOY they were!!! NOT!!!!!
It is never fun, let me tell you. I had minor irritation from my father that wanted to invite a cousin and wife who we hardly talk to. FIL - no problem w/ him thankfully. Had to convince FH that some people he wanted to invite...eh...they're more acquaintences than friends. He was mad at first but then I think he realized. You realize what you can afford and go from there.
