so FH is working prt time and they have been telling him that when a full time spot opens he'll be next. We'll a full time guy retired but they're bringing him back for a part time position so now they are only offering FH a seasonal full time position which means no benefits, no holidays, no overtime, etc. FH has been working his butt off and constantly changing his hours around to help this place out. He's so upset right now. In january they said oh this guy is going to retire you'll get his spot. Then last month it was oh this guy put in his papers he's going to retire in June so you'll get full-time then and now they are turning around and just offering it to him for a couple of months, which if he takes it he loses his health insurance through the state because he'll be making too much money even if it's going to be for a couple of months. Then FH's boss turns around as says well you can just file a dosmetic partnership and go under your fiances health insurance. First off that's not something we wanted our we would have done that when we bought our house. Second, we have been waiting for him to get full time so I could start looking for another job that would be in my field and I wouldn't have to worry about not having health insurance since I would be under his plan. ARGH

the guy technically retired his full time position but they made him part time (even after they constantly were complaing about him not doing his job and they couldn't wait for him to retire). Now if FH doesn't take the seasonal full time they are going to offer it to someone else and they said they don't know when they will be opening another regular full time spot

oooo i see the dilema..i don't even know how you could go about this, the full time position seems worth it but loss of insurance is risky..

Ugh THAT sucks! I am so sorry.
It's a pain in the rump to put him on your benefits right now. I tried to do so with mine and we have to show financial interdependence (which it sounds like you bought a house together so you prolly would be ok) but it's def not a quick, easy process. Everything needs to be mailed to the state and then if they approve it, you tells your insurance company. At least that's how it works for me...
Good luck though. Hopefully something works out for him.

Why do bosses say something and don't do it? So annoyinggg! If they had no intention of giving FH a permanent full-time job, they shouldn't have mentioned it month afte month. I feel for ya Yvonne! Hope it works out!

Thanks ladies. I called my health insurance company today and they don't even cover domestic partnerships, only common law marriage which we would have to prove we have been living together for 7 years which we haven't.

Just out of curiousity... are either of you under 26? B/c if you are, I believe you can go back under your parents, but I think after 26, you're SOL on that. :( My sister was in limbo for a while but once Obama extended parents coverage til 26, when she was done with college but not working full-time, she went back under my parents' plan. I mean ya it wasn't ideal but at least she had coverage.
Just an idea if you guys are young enough to still qualify for parental coverage.

unfortunately we are both older than 26. It seems like his boss is trying to figure out anyway for FH to work 40 hours a week but not get benefits which is such bs since for the past few months he kept telling FH he'll be getting full-time not this seasonal bs

I'm so sorry. That stinks. Insurance companies def don't make it easy for others to join in on your policy. I guess I get why but in sitch's like this, it sucks. I am praying some good luck comes his way!
