VENT! My best friend just got engaged and I didn't even know that she was dating someone!!!

VENT! My best friend just got engaged and I didn't even know that she was dating someone!!!

She has been dating this guy for nine months and never told me because she was superstitious that it might not work out. When does she tell me...the day she gets engaged!
I'm like 'How can you be engaged if you're not dating anyone?' Very weird.
Now this is the girl that pretended my wedding did not exist because she wasn't engaged yet and she is a year older than I am. I would mention something about my wedding and she would ask me not to talk about it because it depresses her. Okay, so now that SHE is engaged she wants to look at magazines and talk wedding talk. I am really upset because for a year she has pretended my wedding hasn't existed and now she all fired up because she is getting married too. I feel like I should act the same way she did toward me...or maybe I should be the better person and help her out..What do you think?

I would tell her exactly how you feel...that you are a little confused that she would never want to talk about your wedding when you really needed someone to talk to...and now she wants to talk about weddings only because she's getting married.

I'd tell her how you feel, I'd also watch my back that she doesn't try to steal your ideas- sounds like she wants to get married before you.

I would first tell her exactly how you feel, and point out her self-absorbed behavior and how it hurt you. Get that out of the way first. But, ultimately you should be the bigger person and jump right into the excitement with her.

I'm sorry...but this girl is your best friend?!? This may be harsh, but I wouldn't tell her anything...just like she wasn't there for you, don't be there for her. I don't believe that REAL friends would EVER act that way towards one another...her behavior, in my book, is not one that I'd consider friendly.

I think you should tell her you were hurt by her actions w/your wedding. Then I would forgive and forget and have fun planning together. Be the bigger person. If she is caddy though and not being a good friend from her on in, then don't waste your time w/her.

I have to agree.

My best friend does get a little self involved from time to time and acts like my major things in life are nothing.. but never about my wedding. This is our most important time in life. As best friends we always thought of eachother as MOH's in eachother's weddings.

I just want to say that this happened to my MOH. The day of her bridal shower, we were all setting up and all of the sudden I hear XYX is engaged...I was like Huh...I saw the girl like a week before for lunch and I didnt know she was dating anyone. Then she is engaged after knowing him 3 months. (at 24 he had been engaged 3x ) anyway, 6 months later they are not together and her response 'well what did you expect when we got engaged after 3 months'

This is my MOH's best childhood friend and she didnt know she was datign anyone either! And it was more or less announced at her shower! of all places!!!
