Vent re: churches that don't allow things to be thrown..

I see so many posts about how churches won't allow you to throw things and so many girls say they're going to anyway.

It makes me so angry....

If you think a rule is stupid you're going to break it anyway?

I mean, come on, it's a CHURCH. God is watching you always but especially there!!

Anyway, it just makes me angry that you want to celebrate the sacrament of marriage but will willingly disobey the requests of your church...

I totally agree....I don't think my church (well actually FH's church) allows anything to be thrown

ETA: forgot to mention and I'm NOT going to!

I completely agree with you Jenn... and the church isn't trying to be difficult but who's going to pick up those rose petals after everyone's thrown them everywhere and how bad are you going to feel when you old Aunt Millie slips on a rose petal and falls.

Besides... I think bubbles make for nicer pictures anyway

exactly. one of the other reasons is because rose oils stain carpets. so if they get stepped on, and it gets into the carpet, it's very hard to clean.

Just make sure that the bubbles don't stain because I've heard they possibly could

i think im gonna be one of the rule breakers
i dont understand the reasoning of not being able to throw eco friendly rice. my church said petals and actual rice is not allowed. im going to do the eco friendly or dried lavendar. its not petals or real rice so maybe im not breaking the rule after all.

yeah i was kinda bummed when my church told me they didn't allow petals to be thrown on the aisle or rice or anything to be thrown outside. they also don't allow aisle runners. I was just bummed coz i had already named my flower girl and i didn't want to disappoint her but I am going to just have her walk with a pomander. I wish I could have her walk my dog down the aisle but if they don't allow all that I'm sure they won't allow my dog :o(

But when you get to thinking about why they ask that people not do that it makes perfect sense.

all rice is ecofriendly. birds do not explode after eating rice.

the issue, is that the rice doesnt just go away right after your wedding.
Our church lets you throw whatever you want, OUTSIDE. however, when there is a wedding on friday, it's still there on Sunday, and i have seen several people slip on it.

there are carbohydrate based things you can throw, kinda like ecofoam, that will disolve as soon as it gets wet... maybe your church would go for that...

I agree with you Jenn - our church doesn't allow that stuff to be thrown either, and at first I was a little upset, but I understand why they have certain rules.

We're probably going to stick to bubbles.

Re: Vent re: churches that don't allow things to be thrown..

the reason my church gives for the rice is that people are starving and its a sin to throw food. the wedding rice is water soluble so no one can slip on it and its eco friendly so if birds eat it they will be fine. im gonna do that or the lavendar but in small amounts, maybe just give it to the bridal party so there is not much left on the floor, i may even have someone sweep it up after we leave.

if it disolves in water that should be fine, talk to your church first and explain it to them. also, if you tell them you'll have someone clean it up, they'll probably let you do it.

i totally agree w/ you, we may use butterflies, that way they'll be set free.

I'm not looking to start drama with this... but please be sure to do a lot of research before doing it.
A lot of butterflies die because of this practice.

Our church asked us not to because they have no one to clean it up. I told FH to get people he works with to get the brooms out because I want rose petals!
