VENT-There are no Chanukah decorations in my office!
I am a psychology extern at a social services agency. Yesterday, they decorated both offices of the agency with Christmas and Kwaanza decorations, but not a single Chanukah decoration! The director of the agency is Jewish! I'm guessing that b/c we have no Jewish clients (that I know of), they chose to decorate for the holidays observed by the children and families who we serve. However, I think it's rude and disrespectful to the Jewish staff here! Even if the families who come here don't celebrate Chanukah, the agency should be promoting diversity and respect!
I just saw someone in my office tell a Jewish social worker to take the stocking off her door b/c it was disrespectful to her for someone to put it on her door in the first place. Now, I personally wouldn't care if someone put a Christmas stocking on my cubicle, but please include a dreidel too!

my DH's restaurant is the exact opposite, only Chanukah and nothing else, owner is Jewish. I am tired of red and green so blue was a nice change. But I know what you mean

That's really weird that there are no dreidels or a menorah. Can you put one up?
We have an unspoken no-decorating policy, unless its something like holly.

the only time there's a chanukah decoration is when i put something up.

That's not right! I would put one up. The holidays are for everyone and I'm sure other people feel the way you do!

I wish I had something here to put up. I'm not back here until Monday, and at that point, the holiday is almost over. I should print something out on the computer.

I would leave it up throughout the entire month of December. Hey, it works for my neighbor who has Santa sitting in her window in July!! Just ask Jamie!

That is really messed up - I am sorry. Who was in charge of the decorating? Can you mention something to them?
My office is equal with the decorations. For every poinsetta plant, there is a dreidel right next to it. In the lobby, at the receptionist desk, in the halls, etc.

Our lobby has a menorah and a xmas tree but the communal office area isn't decorated. I have a little tree and xmas lights in my office and I have seen that others have decorated the area for Xmas, Hanukkah and Kwaanza.
You should complain and tell them that as psychologists who treat children, it is necessary to teach them appreciation for all cultures, even if it is just displaying a dreidel or menorah.

That is wrong. We have a Menorah & we only have 1 (non-practicing) Jewish person here. We's still put it up regardless of who as working here at the time. We don't have any Kwanzaa decorations, but I dont' thikn anyonehere celebrates it. But if they brought it in we'd put it up. We might even re-imburse if it wasn't overboard.

I think everything should go up in every workplace. We have to cater to clients as well as office staff. But, I think Jax and I are doing a good job of supplementing our (same) office with some child-focused Chanukah-related things. It's just unfortunate that, in a work setting where we are supposed to be value and judgement free to our clients, we have to single ourselves out as the Jewish ones, instead of it all just being everywhere. Oh well, maybe we'll teach them for this year and then they'll do it differently next year. Even though we won't be here anymore, at least we'll have made a contribution in that regard....

ugh. that sucks. it annoys me too, and I'm not even jewish. I helped the people in the bank fix thier menorah! I keep looking or nice hanukkah decorations and aprt of the problem is that there aren't too many. I wish there was more nice stuff. I picked up a 'happy hanukkah' sign at cedarhurst I don't know what you can do about it, but try to put up something, even if you print a little sing that says 'happy hanukkah' and put it on your cube...and draw a little menorah that you can 'light' with your highlighter evry day

ITA with you. Even if they are no Jewish clients, as you said there are Jewish employees and they should be represented too.
