i went to Elena who is a vendor on here- i went to her because a friend of mine used her for her hair and make up came which came out nice- when i spoke to elena on the phone she said that it was 40.00 for a hair and makeup trial- so fine i booked the appointment for today- so i go and get my hair and makeup done and lets just say i cried when i left- which im glad that i did so i could see how the make- up would last- she did the airbrushing which i thought i liked until i saw it come off when i wiped my tears- my eyes well thats a whole other story they looked messy and the colors were uneven and i looked like someone gave me two black eyes- (i did ask for the drastic look but not messy and all under my eyes) now im sitting in the chair and her doorbell rings well its her next appointment and now all of a sudden im rushed-she tells me to pay her for today i asked her how much and she told me 80.00 i said oh i thought it was 40.00 she said no its 40.00 for hair and 40.00 for makeup (that she did not say on the phone) she said she felt bad and said she would do something for me the day of the wedding- I WOULDNT USE HER IF SHE WAS THE LAST PERSON ON EARTH- needless to say i came home washed my face and took my hair out- i wont even get into the hair because it wasnt even what i showed her a pic of- she gave me barrell curls and the pic i showed her didnt even have barrell curls-
anyway lesson learned always ask a breakdown for all pricing- now i need some good recommendations for hair and makeup-

I used Taralei for hair and Jacqueline Nicole for make-up and can do nothing but rave about either of them.

I had the same experience with another vendor.
Here is my advice.
Hair - do not do something that does not look like you. Fancy hair can be cute but you may regret it too. Tendy little tendrils may look a little silly in 20 years. I had a nightmare hair trial and just decided to get it blown out the day of the wedding. I put in a small beaded headband myself and it looked better than what the hair stylist did. i am glad I had it blown out though. A salon blow dry always looks more finished and lasts longer. I had a style that looked timeless.
Makeup - spend the money you'd put towards a makeup artist and buy quality makeup and do it yourself. I had an airbrush trial that sounds just like yours. It covered no imperfections and I had very uneven and sloppy eye makeup. The makeup 'artist' used fuschia eye shadow. It was terrible. I cried and it streaked. Do not use airbrushing.
I have the answer for you though. Go to Bare Minerals at Roosevelt field or buy at Sephora (Jillian at Gorgeous Faces uses Jane Iredale mineral makeup which is similar from what I've heard). It is powder foundation and the only thing that has ever covered up my acne scars and made my skin look luminous. It stays on forever and does not look cakey if you spray a light mist of water over it. It rained on my wedding day and I was sweating and the makeup always looked great.
I was addicted to this stuff until I developed an allergy to it (so obviously be careful). Most people are not allergic though and it took me a year before it bothered me. Some shades of foundation are ok and others bother my skin. Anyway - it is really amazing and you can do it yourself with a short lesson from them or jsut playing with it yourself.
I'm so glad I did my own makeup. I get too nervous not knowing how it will turn out on the day of.

are you taking about the bare escentuals- i bought that about 2 weeks ago im still trying it- it covers good and i like it so far- im going to also try the MAC counter at Roosevelt Field- i also break out once and a while and this seems to cover it-
thanks for your advice- i just wanted everyone to steer clear of her- SHE WAS AWFUL and made me look like a 50 year old woman with a clown face-

Sorry to hear that you had such a bad experience. Jill is great for makeup. And such a sweet person. And for hair, Jenn for the Hair Genie is great and also has a great personality. Also, Marie Katz is a sweetheart and does great makeup. She did mine for my engagement pictures. And my makeup lasted all day. Good Luck !!!

I'm sorry you had to go through this. I went through something similar with my hair trial. I had a trial with someone that is considered very reputable here - and she did a horrible job. It wasnt even that I didnt like it - it just didnt have a style to it. SO i left there crying - I ended up just going for another trial and it worked out just fine. That is the point of a trial - although it is disappointing when it happens - at least it isnt happening on your wedding day.
You'll find someone that will do a great job!

Sorry to hear that but at least u found out now! I tryed a vendor on here also that I thought I would like and No way IT was horrible!! She didn't listen to anything and she finished so quick and kept saying the day of it will be different NO U will do it now so I know!!
Anyway I didn't use this vendor but I did learn my lesson!!
