So now that everyone has received their invitations that clearly states no children, I have been getting the 'my kids don't really eat' and 'I'm not sure that we will make it because I don't have anyone to watch my kids' phone calls. I know that I should have expected this but I really thought that people like my cousins would figure it out! I guess you just can't make everyone happy right?! Anyone else going through this?

I'm not having kids at my wedding either. I haven't sent out my invites yet, but I have already heard from my Grandma that she 'isnt happy' about it. My feeling is that you have ample time to get a babysitter. Just like they had the wedding they wanted, we should be able to have the wedding we want. end of story

It's YOUR wedding... The people who want to be there will find a way. There's more then enough time for them to find a sitter.

I'm having an adult only reception and one of my cousins isn't coming because she can't bring her kids. Its your day and they should respect your wishes. If the choose not to come then they will miss an amazing wedding.

We've had a couple not go because their infant wasn't invited. I know it sounds insensitive but why would you want to bring a baby to a wedding? We are allowing a few kids since my family is small but we put on the invite if a person's child was invited

I am welcoming kids because EVERYONE I know has kids. In fact, two people in my bridal party are pregnant and everyone else has kids. Only my moh doesn't have kids and she's getting married this August. Lol. I wouldn't be surprised if she will be pregnant by January. I'm a bit worried about the potential kids rolling around the dance floor but it's not worth the drama. Plus I'm a nanny and I'm sure those kids would be upset if I didn't invite them.

Ahhh what did you say to her? We're not having kids at our wedding either. I love kids but I don't feel that a wedding reception is an appropriate place for them.

When we set our date my FH and I were in agreement that our wedding was going to be an adult event. For our guests who have children we gave them the heads up and gave them more than enough time to find a babysitter. My FSIL has 2 children (one who will be our ring bearer who will be 3) and another who will be 1 and she is cool with it. She will have a babysitter for after the ceremony. It's YOUR day and if you do not want children at your wedding you have that right. It's still early so you never know, your cousin might still be able to get a babysitter. Keeping fingers crossed for you.

THIS! My MOH has 4 kids & she knew my feelings about children at weddings before I even got engaged lol. You gave them plenty of time to make other arrangements.

Thanks so much everyone! I went to sleep so early yesterday because I was so over the drama! I just feel like they are trying to make a point. Like ' if I can't bring my family then I'm not coming' which to me is complete BS. I'm just happy to see that a lot of people aren't inviting children. I thought that this was somewhat normal and then after yesterday, it seemed like no one has even heard of this idea lol
Another point to my request is that my venue is on the water and the back deck doesn't have a railing. Imagine if something went wrong?!? We're already concerned for the people that are drinking. Ughhhh I need to move on lol

I actually found a day care center in Wantagh that will watch all of the kids from 7-1am so I offered this to all of my cousins that are complaining. I even offered to pay. It's not about the money to me as much as it is about the formality of our wedding. I think it's so different when there's kids playing hide and seek during the first dance lol

That was generous of you to offer day care services. I was asked to do the same, but I've already spent too much money on this wedding. At my cousins children friendly wedding, the kids pulled the fire alarm during the reception requiring the fire department to come in and turn it off. Since then, I've vowed not to have children at my wedding.

That's really nice of you to even find a daycare for them and offer to pay! Your very generous. Where in wantagh is it? Bc I have to find a sitter for my 2 year old son the day of our wedding. Our venue is on the water also & that was another one of my concerns. It's too dangerous for kids! Hopefully your cousin finds a babysitter or takes your daycare offer. If she try's to give you a hard time after that then just tell her to stay home with her kids! You don't need the bs!

I'm inviting my first cousins (who are all under 14) and my nephew. No other kids. Most of them probably will get picked up by 9 anyway. People have more than enough time to find a babysitter.

In full anticipation of this problem, I have decided ahead of time that I will let anyone bring children who are brave enough to ask. I don't want kids there. I don't think people have fun when they are busy being a parent. So I gave them an out, the kids are not invited. I encourage them to find a sitter and have a nice weekend. If they don't want to, then fine. For example, I think my FH cousin from CA is bringing her kids-- fine, I totally get it because of the traveling. And I think everyone else would understand that too.
I guess what I am trying to say is I have just given up caring. I put my preference/request out there by not listing children, but this point forward I will just yes people. Its a big party, no reason to cut ties or hurt feelings over it.

Kids is always a touchy subject with people at weddings. My daughter is 7 and I used her as the cutoff age. Anyone younger, not invited. FH also has really young sisters and a brother (12, 11, and 8 by the wedding) so it wasn't like I could NOT invite them. But beyond those 4 kids, that's it. I also know they're all very well behaved, so I'm not worried about it. And no one so far has given me any grief, hopefully it stays that way!

Children don't belong at weddings. Its a long tiring day for them and they get annoying because they are bored. It costs more to have them there even at half price. I remember many weddings where only 1 parent went because they didnt want a stranger babysitting. Just like all the other families do it so can they. Its YOUR day have what you want.
