venting!

In full anticipation of this problem, I have decided ahead of time that I will let anyone bring children who are brave enough to ask. I don't want kids there. I don't think people have fun when they are busy being a parent. So I gave them an out, the kids are not invited. I encourage them to find a sitter and have a nice weekend. If they don't want to, then fine. For example, I think my FH cousin from CA is bringing her kids-- fine, I totally get it because of the traveling. And I think everyone else would understand that too.

I guess what I am trying to say is I have just given up caring. I put my preference/request out there by not listing children, but this point forward I will just yes people. Its a big party, no reason to cut ties or hurt feelings over it.

Totally agree with this! Some kids are a must for us- nieces & nephews, out of towner's as well as Bridal party's children. I personally think they are spending the entire day with us and that's a long time for daycare so I can give them the option of bringing their children. If they want to babysit their kids all night that's their choice. Otherwise I am not extending the invitation but if asked we wont say no.

The only kids i'm having at my wedding are my son and my nephew! that's it! i have 2 people rsvp so far that the husband is staying home to watch the kids. thats an option too!! i'd rather one come than both stay home.

When we are sending out the save the dates we are sending them adressed to MR. and MRS so and so early so that the ones with the kids are aware and FH will be telling the people on his list that have kids that it is adult only. The people on my guest list that have kids are excited that they will be having 'date night' with their spouses.

I think you are entitled to have your wedding day the way you want and everybody should be respectful of that. If they were younger and/or didn't have children they probably wouldn't want to be at a wedding filled with little kids either. They may not agree with it but they should respect it and not give you crap for it.

We don't really want small children there, but we are having our 3 nieces and the best man's daughter. That's it for young kids. And my sister is planning on hiring a sitter to take care of her kids at the wedding. I am sure someone will ask to bring kids, we will just handle it on a case by case basis. It's not something that is worth stressing over.

The only children at our wedding will be our flowers girls (ages 3 and 5) and FH's nephews and niece (ages 9, 14, 15). FH told his mom that we weren't inviting children and she said 'Well what are they supposed to do with them', he was like that's not my problem. I babysit for a family and the 8 yr old boy keeps asking if he's invited and I feel horrible saying no but that means all three of those kids will have to be invited. My thought is I want the parents to be able to enjoy themselves for the night too.

I too am dreading it. We are in agreement to not invite children. After a whole drama with cousin from out of state about not being able to part with her nearly 2 year old to come visit/be at our wedding, she is now pregnant and can'
t fly her eanyway.

Lguido you just made me realize another reason to not have children there! My wedding is also on the water and that would be a bit dangerous.

So now that everyone has received their invitations that clearly states no children, I have been getting the 'my kids don't really eat' and 'I'm not sure that we will make it because I don't have anyone to watch my kids' phone calls. I know that I should have expected this but I really thought that people like my cousins would figure it out! I guess you just can't make everyone happy right?! Anyone else going through this?

You will NEVER make everyone happy. What is important is that you and your FH are happy. Keep that in mind when things get even closer.

OMG I went through this a few months back. The only children invited are the ones that are in the wedding party and even that... those kids are going back to the hotel with the babysitter after cocktail hour.

My cousin flipped out on me and my mother to the point where I told him if he continues to scream at his aunt the way he has been he will not be invited to the wedding. It was a disaster! I don't care. A wedding is a formal affair not a children's party. I offered to pay for a babysitter for all of the children back at the hotel. People and family are nuts and it's an evening wedding. Do they really want their 5 year old there till 1am. FH told me to just invite them to avoid the drama but I put my foot down and said no. They will get over it!

Good Luck!
