Am I alone here? This the problem I have. As we all know, this is a public forum. We all vent, ask for advice, give advice, and for the most we all support each other. However, I feel that many of us ask for advice, state our opinions, and then once we receive feedback that we do not want we get upset. I’m guilty of this too!
Its no secret - some of us are better at being polite and considerate of other peoples feeling than others, some of us are blunt, some of us “beat around the bush” etc. BUT if you state your opinion, rant, review on these boards you open yourself to all kinds of responses. It’s hard when someone openly opposes your idea but were all adults and our emotions shouldn’t be so fragile and at the very least we should conduct ourselves in a respectable manner. I hate controversy by any means but controversy is inevitable especially when you solicit a response from others (who are for the most part strangers.) That’s exactly what we do when we post, we add a new topic and essentially request for others to comment on it.
Lastly, I love this website – these boards and the wonderful people that utilize it have given me countless valuable information. Thank you!
Justine
Oh and if you disagree with this post then kiss my @$$!!! Haha just kidding

Re: Venting on “Venting” - what do you think?!
Ok so I have already received several FMs of people who think I am referring to them. So let me stress, this is NOT in reference to any particular person this is just a general observation that I just dont understand.

There will ALWAYS be drama. It will never go away. Just don't pay attention to it. There's always SOMEONE who has something to say. Always. That's the way life goes.

I agree,. I think if ppl don't want to hear others opinions, advice, then don't put yourself out there by venting, cpmplaining, etc.
I have no patience for ppl who vent but are not willing to do anything to change their situation. i think alot of the time, people want 'us' to say 'oh your so right, that was messed up of ____ etc.'
does that make any sense?

Re: Venting on “Venting” - what do you think?!
My thoughts on venting:
Many of us have complained so much to family members, fiances, and bridal party members that we need to now turn to others in the same boat. I am a person who is brutally honest, so if you do not like what I am saying, then you shouldnt ask for honest opinions and so forth.
Think of all the different women (and men) on this site...if we met in the 'real world' we would have differences of opinion too... we just need to accept everyone at face value and move on with our wedding and post wedding plans

I completely agree....
When you ask for someone's opinion on something, you have to be prepared for answers you might not agree with. Just like when you ask a yes or no question, don't be surprised if you get a no answer.
People take things too much to heart on here sometimes. And if you can't handle constructive criticism, then don't ask for an opinion. I'm one of those that is straight to the point and I don't believe in beating around the bush.
And if you decide to post anyway, try to give as much information as possible, because sometimes you can read into something that is not the whole story.

This is the truth. Before I was obsessed with this board, I was obsessed with shape.com message boards and it was the same exact drama. People have different opinions, that's the way it is.

I agree, and then you get those people who say you are being rude for giving your honest opinion.
Its rude on how someone describes their opinion, with the words they choose, but too many people on here jump on you for just giving an honest tastefully opinion.

Re: Venting on “Venting” - what do you think?!
IMHO, the problem arises when an opinion is asked for and the person asking doesn't give all the details. The rest of us fill in the missing pieces, as is human nature. Then, based on our perceptions we offer up the advice. When those perceptions are wrong, the original poster then gets 'hurt' that the responders leapt to the conclusions that we did, especially when the person responding is forthright and doesn't beat around the bush at all. When you add the fact that this is all being done in writing, without tone of voice, inflection and facial expressions, it is very easy to misunderstand.
If everyone asking an opinion could remember this it would make for less board drama, but usually the original poster is too upset (or angry) to keep that in mind - hence the original vent.
