Venting Session- Florist Issue (No names mentioned)
So my florist called me last night to make the final arrangements and give me the final bill. I was quoted 2800-3200. My final bill came in at 4700. Am I out of my mind that I am ready to take a prisoner????
I am absolutely livid that this happened. Any ideas?

Do you have the quote in writing?

I have the contract breakdown and it shows just what the quote is. It is itemized, so I know what each item costs.

I'd calculate what you asked for based on your itemized list and then add tax to see what it should be and then contact them.
Did the original quote include tax?

Good Question, I'm not sure. To add to my fury, I can only pay final payment in cash, so I have to get my $ together and bring them 4G's!!!!!
I just hate to spend so much like this, especially since they die by the end of the night. It's like throwing 4,000 out the window.

I just re-read your post, tax wouldn't change the amount as much as that!
Good luck!

if you have a copy of the quote, make copies and take it to them and ask them to explain the increase. that doesn't sound right.

Did you change what you wanted from the original quote?
Is there anything that you can take out to cut the cost?

Did you change or upgrade what you wanted from them? Seems like an awful big increase without having changed the original contract.
Make sure you bring your contract with you!

The only thing that I can think of is if you maybe added tables (CP's) from your original quote. Did you upgrade or add anything else?

I didn't change anything other then that the original quote was for 14 tables and now it is 18 tables. But my centerpieces aren't extravagent enough to cost 300 per table.
I am calling them right now so that they can fax me over the final bill with everything itemized.

That is total bullsh!t. I would demand they sit down with me and go over every little thing that is different from your original quote. That's why you get a quote and a contract. Helllooooo??? If you didn't make any drastic changes since the time of the quote i.e. now you have all callas v. all roses, or 30 tables instead of 20, then they need to justify that. That is ridiculous. Lots of luck!

I would fax them YOUR itemized quote that they originally gave you and tell them that you are holding them to their original contract. Let them know that you will add on enough to cover your centerpieces at the original agreed upon price.

Beware, there may be a gas surcharge.

i have never heard of that. Even if there was, it wouldn't cover the difference she is talking about.

i've heard of that before. a florist i visited told me in a quote that delivery would be X amount--but that they might have to add an additional surcharge for gas. also--maybe they are charging you some crazy set-up fee!
let us know what happens with the bill!

Oh man, that stinks!!!! I have a contract with my Florist and I was adamant about not going over my budget. I would say to her you quoted me tis much and now it's way out of control! Don't let her/him get away with it w/out a fight!! lol XOXOXO Kitty

Really bad business. They need to stick to the original quote, charge you a per-centerpiece additional charge, and that's it. Add tax if appropriate. Contract is a contract.
