We are planning a 2012 wedding in late winter/early Spring.
Would love some feedback on the following venues: Old Field Club The Riviera Mansion at NYIT The Metropolitan Three Village Inn
A few things we are looking for....
-Paying less than $100 per plate (would consider a March wedding/or a Friday night, rather than Sat. night)
-We only have about 100-120 on the guest list, so we are looking for a place where we don't feel 'lost'... we looked at a few venues that had huge rooms and we would only be on one side of the room. (disliked)
-Also, cocktail hour in a different room from the reception is important to us....
We are also open to other ideas or recommendations.... Thank you!!

i've only looked at The Riviera of the places on your list... the room is an odd shape so you def have to check it out.. the cocktail hour is in the same room, but its around the bar so its almost like its in another room. i felt as though there could be things happening on the dance floor that some guests would miss because of the shape, but i've never been to a wedding so i don't know for sure.
the price is right in march.
also, i've notice that the fridays will knock off $10pp in most places...
hth!

I agree about the odd shape of the Riviera. I wasn't a fan of the inside cocktail hour, but the outside cocktail hour is really nice. The place has a very comfy feel to.
I looked at the metropolitan and loved it. The place is very classy. The Bridal suit and bathroom is on the smaller side, but overall very nice. We thought about having our wedding here, but it ended up being to small for the amount of guest we are having.
You may also want to look at Crestwood Manor.
If you want any more info send me FM.

Im going to send you an FM ... Unfortunately, the De Seversky Mansion at NYIT starts with a site fee - it is a fee that is not waived unless you perhaps graduated from NYIT or know someone in your family who did. In addition to that there is a price person. It may be different for a Friday or Sunday, as well as in an off season, but I know for certain we paid well (and I mean well) over $100 for a Saturday evening affair. I will say this, if you can stretch your budget the De Seversky is a PERFECT venue for a more intimate affair like you mentioned. We had 120 guests and it was perfect, just perfect! More info to come.

De seversky is a beautifulll venue and we loved the privacy of it but the prices we were quoted were well over 100 pp and it doesn't matter what time of the year it is...if you are able to book a canceled date or under 8 months to the day, THEN they are more willing to work with you.
The site fee is 2500 and there is an additional 1000 if you have your ceremony there.
The place is worth it IMO, there are photo opps EVERYWHERE. so pretty!
we had a little over 100 and it was perfect! loved the intimate fell of it

The Metropolitian looks nice online.... however, it didn't strike me the same way once we visited. The CH is upstairs with not nearly enough seating for everyone. Personally, I felt the space would be tight for 100 people. There are no windows in the RH which personally I like. My biggest issue was that there was no where OUTSIDE to take pictures. They give you a permit to go to the beach, but since FH and I are getting married on site - we'd have to travel to this site by our own vehicles. It personally wasn't for me.
You should try the Crestwood Manor - under 100 for a sat night. BEAUTIFUL!!!!!

I haven't been to The Riviera; however, it was one of the venues on an episode of Four Weddings. The guest brides kept commenting that they couldn't seen anything on the dance floor due to the shape of them room.

Thats odd ... I went to a beautiful wedding at The Metropolitan and the cocktail hour was in a larger room next to the main ballroom. It was beautiful! I will say though they did not have enough tables set up so a lot of us were standing around and juggling drinks/plates. Not my idea of a good time! The ballroom was pretty though!

Re: ***Venue Help***
out of your list i only visited The Riveria and The Metropolitan. i didnt really care for the Metropolitian felt too wedding factory kinda place for my taste. I also had my company xmas party there this year and the food was not very good to be honest.
The Riveria was my second choice for our wedding i loved that place!! when we went there they were setting up for a wedding and they snuck us some food from the cocktail hour to give us a little tasting and it was great. i love the rustic feel of the riveria. the only reason we went with fox hollow over riveria was the room is slightly bigger and you get more for your buck at fox hollow.

Re: ***Venue Help***
you're definitely on the right track by negotiating your date/time of the year. we did the same thing. we visited de seversky first and fell in love with it. we were quoted off season on sat night first which was wayyyy out of our budget. then we negotiated back for a friday night instead and it was slightly more reasonable. we just had to do it there - no other place measured up, so it was worth paying a little extra and we're cutting costs in other places. and honestly, the people there are great and the food was incredible.
also, we saw the metropolitan and hated it. by far the worst place we visited....because the people who worked there were awful. it made a lasting impression on us to never want to even think about calling them back.
best of luck to you.

Re: ***Venue Help***
I had a terrible experience when I went to look at the Metropolitan. The woman helping us was very pushy and cold and she told me they would be able to hold the 200 people we were having but I thought the space was way too small for that. She also seemed annoyed every time I asked her a question.
My aunt had her wedding at the Riviera. It was a long time ago but I remember we all had a blast.

Re: ***Venue Help***
Old field club is pretty inside, but I didn't like the fact that it was soooooo far and in the middle of nowhere. The roads are so confusing. I also think it's $110 for a fri night, but I may be confusing that with sat.

Re: ***Venue Help***
Hi! I just booked Riviera and I can help somewhat with the worries about the room. The girl on 4 Weddings had about 200 guests...so with the shape of the room with that many people you definitely lose a few tables to the back corner where people can't see the dance floor. This was definitely one of our concerns since the room is a little bit of a weird layout, but with the 120 guests we are expecting- the floorplan for tables will the dance floor in everyone's view. One thing is that for Fridays we were quoted 120 as being the minimum. Everyone there has been super helpful and accommodating, though, so they might be willing to work with you! I am working with Vickie and she is pretty much the sweetest person ever so I definitely recommend talking to her if you are considering Riviera! Hope that helped (:

Re: ***Venue Help***
So I looked at OFC and the Riviera on your list. OFC is definitely not going to be $100 pp, it starts at $110 pp for fri/sun, but prices don't change for any time of year or time of day. Saturdays are $130++ so it might be out of your budget.
We chose the Riviera, I actually just got married there on Saturday. It was AMAZING. We had 130 people and it was perfect. The layout of the room is a little weird because there is a back corner, but unless you have a BIG wedding, you can move the floorplan around to avoid using that corner! They let you be pretty flexible. They also threw a ton of stuff in for free for us and everyone there was so friendly and nice to work with. I would recommend them 100000000%. And for a Fri or Sun, especially in the off season, you will absolutely be under 100 pp. I love it there, and obviously I am biased, but definitely check it out
and FM me with any other questions!

Re: ***Venue Help***
i'm another riviera bride... had the most amazing wedding there on sunday - could not have asked for anything more. i will say that what i loved so much about the place is the outdoor space, and fortunately we were able to take advantage of it. but just make sure you'd be happy with it if you had to do everything (ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception) inside. i still think it would have been beautiful regardless (whichs why i booked there). feel free to contact me if you have any questions! :)
