Venue Help

Hi everyone. Just got engaged 2 weeks ago (Yay!) and we are planning a Feb 2015 wedding, yes less than 6 months.
This is my second wedding, FH's first.
I am torn between having a full blown wedding, or just going to the justice of the peace and having more of a catered party.

My questions- does anyone know of a venue that I can get for under $50.00 in February? ( I do not want a sit down dinner more of an extended cocktail hour)
-do venues actually charge less if it is not a full blown wedding?
Venue can be in either Nassau or Suffolk.
Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance

I do know that they charge less for just cocktail hour. If you also do a sunday brunch or a buffet dinner, it would be a lot less. Not sure about $50 pp though. I know The Snapper Inn has a cocktail party option: http://www.thesnapperinn.com/cocktail_party.asp

My sister did town hall and rented out a restaurant on a Monday (it was the one of the only days her and her husband had off together. She also did her wedding in less than 3 months). They had 60 people and it was round $55pp with open bar.

Also, if you have your wedding during the week, you will save a lot of money.

I totally understand this is my second wedding and my FH 1st. We were all set to get married in a restaurant we really didn't want anything big at all. We're getting married at the Riviera. We were all about doing it just in a small restaurant and we had an appointment with novita in Garden City. We were going to have about 50 people. But then it went up being about 120. If it was his second wedding we would have done a small restaurant wedding with about 50 people or less. By family pressure put us in having a regular wedding. But that's why we like the Riviera because it reminded me of something homey and not a catering hall. But it is a sitdown dinner. I believe novita has that extended cocktail hour option. The food is excellent. Again if we didn't have it at the Riviera and that is where we would be having it.

Try the Irish Coffee Pub or Westbury Manor. They both do beautiful parties and are able to work with you a bit on price too.

try Captain Bills in Bay Shore. I have a friend who had their 'at home' reception after getting married in DR. They said the people there were very accomodating and they received a fair price.

We did a friends 30th birthday at Capatin bills a few years ago. It was 30PP for buffet and food and wine - so Im sure they'd be able to work with you

I am pretty sure Flowerfields does an extended cocktail hour type wedding. And the room where the cocktail hour is is the prettiest part of the place!

Haha, I forgot to mention that my venue (Irish Coffee Pub) is a great option! They are definitely willing to work with you on price and Stephen is great to work with! I believe they have a few options for you.

OH! and my sister got married, basically the same situation as you. she had the reception at Novita in Garden City. THey have a downstairs area that has a feeling of a Manhattan loft. She did an extended cocktail hour.

Riviera quoted me $59pp for any Friday in Jan or Feb. I'm sure you could talk to them about doing a cocktail party vs full sit down.
