I'm newly engaged and have only just started thinking about the actual wedding. We're aiming for a classy but laid-back beachy-style wedding. Think destination wedding but not away. I'd also love to avoid the typical catering hall route but realize that getting creative often means getting expensive! Does anyone have any suggestions for venues on LI? I was thinking Montauk would be a great town to spend the wedding weekend in late summer/early fall 2009.
My cousin's wedding was in Northern California on the back deck of a B&B. I'd LOVE something along those lines. Even more amazing if it's near/on water. Am I dreaming here? Does this place exist? And then does it exist within my budget? -- keep in mind we'll probably have troubling holding the guest list under 200. Help!
Thanks in advance for any advice!

Sounds like you might like the place I got married at in Hampton Bays...on the water...tent wedding...not a typical NY hall...and you can take pics on the beach right down the road...here's a link to some pics & my review...you can check out more in my albums! Congrats & good luck!!!
also - look into the Pridwin in Shelter Island. Gorgeous & might be your style.

Lombardi's on the Sound, Beach Club Estate in Ronkonkoma, The Riviera in Massapequa, Crescent Beach Club in Bayville, Lands End in Sayville, Pridwin on Shelter Island, Gurney's, Giorgio's
Hope this helps!!!

We were thinking a very same thing. We wanted a destination wedding. So we settled for a mini one in Montauk. I
Gurney's Inn - you can get married right on the beach, the cocktail hr is on the Lido Deck's and the reception is in the ballroom.
There are a bunch of hotels in Montauk- so that won't be a problem either. Let me know if you have questions!

Check out the snapper inn in oakdale. They have a pavilion that is on the water. it's basic but really cute. Good luck! You've gotten some great recommendations here.

Definitely take a look at the Pavilion at Sunken Meadow. Its VERY laid back, but you can decorate it up! Its right on the beach, and they can put up a tent for CH if you want. Its a Lessings property, so the food is bound to be great too. Good luck!

I would look at the Crescent Beach Club or Lands End in Sayville. Both have ceremonies on or very close to the beach.

The Old Field Club!!! Look at pics in my album and on the site - it's also rather reasonably priced. I love it.

Thanks again for all of your suggestions.
Could any of you share approximate costs of any of these venues?
The Inn Spot on the Bay Gurneys Inn Atlantica CBC
Are they all per person or do they also have site fees? I'm so new at this... I'm really just learning!

The Old Field Club looks gorgeous!! But I think it'd be too tight for our probable guest list. :( Thanks for the recommendation!

Sending you a FM about Gurneys...and some of my decision making process. Pretty much looked at all the 'beachy places'
